PGS Subtitles not playing correctly in desktop apps if timing overlaps

Continuing the discussion from Multiple subtitles at the same time cause second subtitle to disappear the same time as the first:

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6486 Truenas core
Player Version#: 1.62.2.3451-fb8ac0ae and 1.31.1.3412-f3195b0d on windows

I have the exact issue mentioned in that post. With the same show even. It seems to affect anime more often than other shows since there are lots of situations where on screen text and voice lines will overlap each other.
The subtitles play fine if i force transcoding. They also play fine on my TCL (android version) tv direct playing. I tried watching the same video in both windows desktop apps and have the same issue in both.

Thanks for continuing the discussion. I’ve been curious how to actually get Plex’s attention on issues like this. Perhaps we just need to keep chatting back and forth to keep the topic from closing?

I kind of get the feeling that they don’t pay much attention to the forums, even though it’s the only avenue they give us for feedback. Pretty frustrating.

Hmm, I decided to do some digging, since I figured Plex would continue to ignore this.
It seems that the Plex Media Player relies on the open-source player mpv.
After installing mpv and playing back my sample video, it exhibited the same behavior.
It looks like there’s already been a bug report on their github page, using my same sample video:

Thanks for the info. It’s interesting that this bug has been around for so long but i guess a lot of people probably don’t use PGS subs.
