Photos added to Photo Library use Jan 1, 1900 date

I need Plex to use the “Taken Date” that is in the metadata of these photos. Is there a setting I’m missing because all of the photos I’m adding have the same date, Jan 1, 1900. Thanks

Server Version#: 1.23.3
Plex Web#: 4.57.4

If your photos have the date taken in them, Plex will read it. If it’s not working, can you PM me one of these photos so I can check?

I appreciate it, I just sent you three photos to look at.

I am seeing this issue as well. Except none of my photos have a capture date. In the past it has default to the modified date on the file but now every new photo I add says Jan 1, 1900.

I’m seeing this same issue with the recent public release and it’s only happening with PNG files for me. It won’t read the Creation Date, Modified Date, or DateTimeOriginal which are all populated.

Yep, this is a pain for sure. The photos I was trying to feed did not have a capture date either. Was told that Creation Date would not work by Plex support.

I see this with scnned photos, photos that were texted, and downloaded from facebook

Plex does not look at the file date. You need to edit the metadata for the date the pictue was “taken”

I can reproduce this issue with PMS version 1.24.0.4930 which is running on Nvidia Shield 2019 Pro. Sometimes the issue vanishes automatically when the library refreshes itself, but usually I need to do some tricks, but all in all this issue is really problematic.

Definitely used to work with the modified date if the date taken was not in the picture metadata.

Stopped working a few weeks ago. Very annoying.

The following command takes the modified date and inserts into the picture metadata so that Plex can read it.
jhead -mkexif -dsft <filename>
I use it on Linux but I believe jhead is available on all platforms.
It works but a bit annoying so it would be good if Plex could start reading modified dates again.

I’ve upgraded to Plex version 1.24.0.4930 and re-imported all of my photos and this issue has gone away. @LOP have you tried to remove all of your photos from the library, do a Clean Bundles, Optimize Database, Empty Trash, and then re-import your photos? That seemed to work for me.

[/quote]I tried just to remove and add photos again and it did not seem to help. Maybe I need to try that bundle cleaning, optimizing and trash empty trick as well.
