I currently use Plex for a variety of reasons: Movies, TV Shows, Music, Stand-up, etc. I also use it to organize my personal photos and movies. For standard movies, TV shows, etc., I view items in my libraries via a grid view - which is most satisfying and the densest way to see the choices.
In the case of personal photos and movies, the directories that I save my data in on my servers are organized by Year and, beneath it, Month. So when I add a library with the directory that contains the years (and sub directories as months), I’d like Plex to organize the view to that data by that method (by year and then by month).
When viewing the material in the ‘Library’ view, for photos, the option is ‘Photos’ or ‘Albums’ and for movies, the option is ‘Movies’ or ‘Folders’. Only with ‘Albums’ or ‘Folders’ can you control the view by way of the directory structure (in my case, by Year and Month). That is, if I want to click ‘through’ a Year to a series of Months and then to a series of photos or movies, I need to use the Albums or Folders option.
The problem is that Albums and Folders only allow for a ‘List’ View, not a Grid View. It would be far better (in my view) to be able to see the Folders, all the way down to the photos or movies in the Month (or even further if it went down to a Week or Day sub directory, as example), with a Grid format option. Some may prefer a List format but a Grid option should be available.
This would include Grid View options on how to organize the photos or movies in the final sub directory (however far down it goes). This should have options to it to allow for sequence based on name or date (both ways), last added or seen, size, etc.
This would also enable people who organize standard movies in directories by type (Action, Animation, Drama, etc.) to view those movies by Folder also but in Grid View and the movies themselves listed (again, with Grid View option) with the above options.
It this already exists, please let me know. But I’ve used Plex for many years and haven’t seen this as an available option. Thanks!
