Photos Library Crashes Server

Server Version#: 1.15.4.993
Player Version#:

I recently moved my media to a new storage device but kept the same Mac OS server and database. I followed the official guide how to update new library locations and it worked perfectly for my other 4 libraries they work fine. But for some reason my Family Photos Library crashes my plex server when I run a library scan. My plex logs seem to have entries like " cant allocate a changestamp " and seem to be getting stuck on one media ID. The below are where the errors start in my Scanner Analysis Log file:

Apr 26, 2019 01:02:14.922 [0x11bf755c0] ERROR - Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle): 56
Apr 26, 2019 01:02:14.922 [0x11bf755c0] WARN - HTTP error requesting GET http://127.0.0.1:32400/library/changestamp (0, No error) (Recv failure: Connection reset by peer)
Apr 26, 2019 01:02:14.922 [0x11bf755c0] ERROR - HTTP -56 downloading url http://127.0.0.1:32400/library/changestamp
Apr 26, 2019 01:02:14.922 [0x11bf755c0] ERROR - Exception inside transaction (inside=1) (…/Library/MediaItem.cpp:1635): Unable to allocate a changestamp from the server
Apr 26, 2019 01:02:14.922 [0x11bf755c0] ERROR - Exception thrown during analysis: Unable to allocate a changestamp from the server

This is very strange since my other libraries are working and streaming fine, I also did a plex media server update the same day I was moving my libraries ( not sure if this did anything ) I have tried rolling back to that version which hasnt worked, I have also tried removing the plex server and all its data entirely from my mac and re instaling from scratch ( restoring my scheduled tasks database file ) I have also tried the steps to repair the database which there seems to be no issues and also ran the steps to rebuild it.

I am at a loss as to what could be causing this ! please help !

Thanks

Daniel

Could you provide the full logs zip file?

Log Files.zip (281.2 KB)

Hi,

I ran the photos library scan and it crashed again, attached are all the logs from the exact time of the crash. It is also sending a crash report to Plex.

Also when I loaded my web login This morning a lot of my box arts are gone for my TV shows / Movies. Something strange is going on now with my plex server.

Archive.zip (4.7 MB)

Hi,

I downloaded all the log files through the settings troubleshooting area, so all of them are attached. But my post above only has the logs from when it crashes if that helps.
Thanks

Daniel

I am having the same issue. Log file attached.

Plex Media Server Logs_2019-04-26_07-24-45.zip (2.1 MB)

@DanielAdelle thanks for the logs, that’s helpful.

It looks to be a problem with geolocation data on one or more of the photos in that library and we’re possibly getting bad data back from our provider.

The logs indicate it is the file /Volumes/Main/Family Photos And Videos/Adelle/20170622_195536.jpg - if this file is not too personal to share it would be easiest if you could zip this file up and send it to me via private message (it’s important that it gets zipped first otherwise it will lose it’s metadata when uploaded to the forum).

If the file is personal and you don’t wish to share it then having the gps coordinates for that specific photo would also suffice, on Mac OS you should be able to follow the steps here (http://osxdaily.com/2015/05/08/view-exact-location-photo-taken-preview-mac/) to get the latitude and longitude for the photo. You can also send this to me via private message.

Let me know if you have any questions.

@dchilton340 Thanks! Seeing the same issue with geolocation data. Unfortunately your logs have rolled over and I can’t extract the filename but only the id of the item in Plex, which is 653526.

You can pull the coordinates for the file from Plex but you’ll just need to get your token and then call the following request:

http://127.0.0.1:32400/library/metadata/653526?includeGeolocation=1&X-Plex-Token=yourtoken

Replace http://127.0.0.1 if necessary (if you’re not calling it from the same computer) and replace yourtoken with your Plex token (you can see here how to get the token: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204059436-finding-an-authentication-token-x-plex-token/ - keep this token private!).

Then paste the xml for me which should have the geolocation info in it.

Thanks for reporting the issue, hoping what you can provide allows us to get to the cause of the problem.

@DanielAdelle and @dchilton340 Don’t worry about the previous requests.

We’ve discovered the issue and have temporarily disabled the geolocation service globally until the issue is resolved. Restarting your Plex server should resolve the crashing issue, sorry for the inconvenience and we’ll have things working again soon.

Hey there very happy to help. Unfortunately I killed my photo libraries so that it would stop crashing my server. But I would like to have them back. Should I add them back and wait for it to crash and then get you the logs etc? I am also happy to do a Teamviewer so you can access my server directly to help in debugging. Thanks again for the help!

Oh sorry just saw this thank you.

Awesome, thanks for the fast response and actions, seems to be working fine now @drzoidberg33

Did this issue get resolved?

Yes - the crash related to the photos geolocation service has been resolved

Thank you.

Is the only method to get the latest Photos library to display, is to point to the “Masters” folder?
I have tried this on Mojave with some partial success: only 1% of my pictures show. I am puzzled as to why. HEIC not supported?

No idea what you mean by Masters
There is a support article on HEIF
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/115002120933-heif-in-ios-11-and-camera-upload/

If you need help please raise a separate forum topic. See the title of this topic. I do not think that this applies to you

?
It is on topic. Very photos-library specific. I am surprised by your comment on “masters”. The main subfolder where all the files really are. I understood that one HAD to use that path in order to get the photos to show up. Unless I got that wrong and hence why things look different for me?

Anyhow, long story short, while I scratched my head on it, I figured that it was a UX thing. I did not understand how the gui worked, and all my files were hidden behind panels that were a single large thumbnail. So it took me a while, but now I know how to navigate the interface better. Not intuitive, but I can do it now.

Thank you on the link to HEIF, while it was not an issue, I took note of the setting as it could mean better support of the file type.

I found the logs, and it seems my server is not crashing.A few hours of digging and we are now more intimate, the PMS and I .

Cheers, much appreciated.
