Pia plex workaround help

I use “private Internet access” as a vpn on my server, pms also runs in this server. Is there a way I can access my pms from remote while pia is running. I’m having the darnedest time trying to get it to work, pia is not helping with this issue saying that tunnelling plex would compromise their service.

Nop, PIA has very limited port forwarding support limited to 2-3 ports thus plex will not work, if you need to use VPN look in to Providers that support port forwarding on all ports, without naming names there are a handful of them out there, which does work with plex.

That’s strange because I was previously with shaw for my internet provider and I was able to get it to work, I switched to Telus and now I can’t connect with pia running

I used to use PIA, but due to their lack of port fowarding support on the ports i needed (only support for 2-3 ports that you do not know before you connect to the vpn)

Thus I switched and able to use my connection again.

I got it to work with a bash script I mashed together…

Mind sharing it ? So others can also benefit off it?

I wrote a wrapper that tunneled the port forward to the pia app, then pia takes care of the rest… run it once and as long as you don’t reboot it’s fine. The code is ugly and I’ll sanitize tonight, I’ll post it soon for those who want it
