I have the latest beta and it seems really sweet with all the new updates [Mobile] New Video Player Beta but I think you may have overlooked something when creating the implementation of PiP!
What about those of us using the “No Nav Buttons UI”? I have a Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and one of the major reasons I purchased this phone is the use of the full screen without a notch or having to use any of the screen real estate for Nav buttons. How can I use the PiP function and also keep my phones UI the way I want it? Will it be possible to add a PiP pop out button (like this
) to the players screen in the future?
We wanted to keep it clean and save cluttering the interface with different buttons for different things. On devices without a navigation bar, you should have gestures for your Home, Back and Recent buttons so you can still enter picture-in-picture mode easily.
I myself have a Samsung S10+ and have the navigation bar turned off as well, the gestures for navigating around work well with the picture-in-picture mode we now have!
I got it to work but it just pauses the video if I have it in the “lock in landscape mode” seems to work better in the portrait mode.
I’ve really been looking forward to getting PIP in Plex. THANK YOU!!! I haven’t noticed any major issues with it so far; not even when enabling lock in landscape mode.
The only minor issue is if I press the back button while watching a video fullscreen, it just stays fullscreen. I have to either close fullscreen video by pressing the X button or go to PIP mode and close the entire player.
This version is still stable enough for me to use daily.
PS: A nice surprise in this new player is the Display Mode setting so I can zoom to fit my screen… similar to YouTube’s pinch to zoom feature.
@Forkboy, my phone also doesn’t have any notches or holes (Samsung Note 9); and, I’m so glad it doesn’t! I also don’t have a navigation bar (I only use edge gestures). I don’t have any issues using PIP. Everything works similar to YouTube Premium. There’s just a small issue when I try to navigate back (when in full screen), it doesn’t always work.
I even took it a step further by setting Display Mode: “Zoom”, to use ALL 6.4 inches of my screen. If I had a notch or hole on my screen the below video would have an ugly hole/notch in the video:
The navigation back issue will be fixed in todays beta.
If you have a notch or a display cutout we don’t render behind that currently, so the notch will never impact your video. We may add this in the future but it would be something separate to the current zoom which won’t go behind your notches / cutouts.
Would you be able to provide logs and steps for how you manage to get it paused?
Tell me how to get you the logs and I’d be happy to
as for the steps I just did a screen record if that helps? But it won’t let me upload it to this thread (even if i use Ultra Compression in 7Zip). Can I pm you a link to download it?
Sure send me the link directly. Steps for grabbing the logs are available here; https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/
Sent the link for both.
