The cast/actor thumbnail for Tom Cruise is pixelated on the bottom and looks like this under the “Cast” section for any movie he’s in. I thought the image corruption was on my local plex server, but then I realized it’s pulling the thumbnail from plex.tv
Can this image be fixed? This is a link to your website where you can also see the image is pixelated on the bottom:
I’m assuming that once the thumbnail is fixed on your website it will be fixed for me too.
I just updated the metadata on my movie library and the thumbnail is fixed for me too. Unless Plex refreshes all metadata randomly or on some kind of a schedule, I definitely wouldn’t have done it again manually for a while. Thanks for the reply to let me know.
A Plex employee reached out to me about 2 weeks ago and said they were looking at it internally, I guess they figured out whatever was causing the issue.
My understanding is that Plex does a metadata refresh automatically as a task (if it’s enabled) but typically that’s only going to update stuff that hasn’t been matched yet; like episode thumbnail or episode titles or summaries that weren’t at TMDB yet when the episode was added is where I normally see automation updates.
It will also do a refresh when a new file is added to a folder if you have “when changed” is enabled which is one of the reasons they suggest putting movies and seasons in their own folder so that each time you add a movie file it doesn’t try to “update” the metadata of other movies and TV shows and possibly change stuff you wouldn’t want changed. I occasionally get new posters on some of my movies because I currently don’t have them setup entirely “right” so if a new poster gets higher votes at TMDB (or the agent decides it wants the non-language version sometimes) my poster will change unless I’ve manually selected it or set it myself with a local asset.
I think have that right but if not some can clarify or correct me and we’ll both learn!
