Why does a newly added movie show up in the middle of the second page of films under “Recently Added Movies” and not at the beginning as TV Shows do?

What “second” page?

The home page only shows items from libraries which have been “pinned” to the side bar.

Each library has also a selector in its properties which can be used to hide it from the home page. Might want to check that.

What kind of hubs from the pinned libraries actually appears on the home page can also be defined quite detailed https://support.plex.tv/articles/manage-recommendations/

Yes. I have pinned a section called “Movies” which shows the recently added films in the order added. This section, titled “Recently Added Movies” allows you to scroll through it. The newest movie is 13th on the list (from left to right) and off the initial screen without scrolling. The latest added to TV Shows “Recently Added in TV Shows” is always the first entry and furthest to the left.

How do I get this same behavior with the movies?

I think I found it! I have 12 movies which show that they were added “a few seconds ago” when they were added MONTHS ago. The listing is showing by date added, so that they are always first. How do I correct this?

Two possible cases:

  • when these files were added, the Plex server machine had an incorrectly set date/time (in the future)
  • these items were added during the course of library creation. They have a file date/time stamp which lies in the future.

Both should be fixable by performing the Plex dance with the affected items.

To prevent this from happening in the future,

  • do a sanity check on the file date/time stamp of all files you add and change it if necessary
  • activate the automatic time synchronization of both the server machine and the file server/NAS
  • give your Plex server machine enough time after boot up, to actually perform the time synchronization. i.e. don’t add new files when it’s not booted up completely yet.
