Places not showing up

Plex Server Version 1.8.2.4209
Plex Web Version 3.20.3

I installed the new server build, and the “Places” filter now appears on the filter dropdown, and in the custom filters. However, the list of Places is empty.

I made sure of the following:

Autotagging is on (not sure if that’s necessary, but it would make sense).
‘Save location names’ is enabled for all of my Photo libraries.
I’m using a library that has geotagged photos.

I ran “Refresh all metadata,” but we know that doesn’t work. So I Plex-danced (grr!) a folder of geotagged photos, and still nothing. I stopped and re-started the server, I’ve re-scanned several times.

What else?

EDIT: Okay, Analyze seems to be making it happen.

Ahhh, the ‘Analyze’ kicked it into life for me too. Cheers.

I am going to apologize in advance because I NORMALLY ask very specific and thought out questions.

That being said, I have geotagging turned off on my camera (iPhone 6s), BUT, in Plex, I have Camera upload turned on, automatic tagging, and places turned on in the Photo library. OBVIOUSLY, I know that Plex will be unable to automatically geotag the photos, presumably because there is no metadata for Plex to use to “geotag with” that being said, is there an option to manually add a location? If so, how do I enable that or how do I enter that?

Thanks again for making such amazing product! I truly can’t put into words and explain how Plex helps all of our family keep in touch with personal videos & photos on a “fairly” (kidding) simple method. I live in Houston and it was VERY helpful for the rest of the family that doesn’t to see that we were okay with videos and photos automatically uploaded, etc. Thanks again.

There’s nothing in Plex like that now. Before I bought a camera with GPS built in, I used a program called Geosetter to manually geotag my photos. There are several such programs out there. Geosetter is free, and pretty easy to use.

Thank You for the reply, so what’s the point of the “Places” feature in Plex, then? I am confused. Maybe I mixed up two different things.

It seemed like you had it right. The point of Places is that Plex will allow you to find photos that are geotagged, either by the camera or by other means like Geosetter, by location. But there is no facility within Plex to add geotag information manually.

I am not familiar with Geosetter, I will go and look it up before I do, am I correct in assuming that it is a 3rd party tool that I can use to “add” geolocation metadata to my photos AND then have Plex rescan/analyze the photos and it will show up in places?
