@mattseeley said: @miniop, @johnwr we just released a UI update which avoids crashing when navigating through large series. Bonus points on the change is that now the Episode detail view remains responsive too - no lag.
@stevensx the new player is so nice. I’ve been watching blu ray remuxes without a single hitch. Swoon. Allowing users to change the aspect ratio of the video is something we’ve filed as a feature request. I’ve added a link to your post in the feature request.
hey @kay.one the problem still exists.
Crashing every time for any tv show even if the show has one season.
Try this :
choose an episode from on deck
then go to show
press o to go back
choose again go to show

Update just went out for EU users, please see the original post for the update!
It’s great the PS4 app gets some love but…did you actually try this before releasing it? It still crashes a lot, mostly while browsing titles. It doesn’t take more than a few minutes of browsing to trigger this.
Awesome sounding update! - looking forward to when you guys also implement “next episode” feature like the web client so that it will auto play the next episode in the series - it’s a pain to keep going back a screen and then in to the next episode
@changeableface i agree totally i would really like this feature ive mentioned it before but it really is a pain to not have auto play next episode because i know u can auto play with the button on the side but when u have a series with alot of episodes its annoying to have auto play on that you have to start from episode 1. i wish it was like roku where you could enable or disable continuous playmode

We found a crash after launch when browsing TV episodes for shows with a lot of episodes. A fix went live a couple days ago. If you’re still seeing crashes please help with some detailed repro steps describing how and what you’re navigating.
@mattseeley, The crashes are indeed less frequent after the update, but they do still happen sometimes while browsing episodes.
I have no idea what causes it or how to make the crashes 100% reproducible, but I’ll keep trying (And having my girlfriend sigh and give me glares every time it craps out). Any suggestions of what you want me to try would help.
So I really want to see you guys bring chapter support for the ps4 app. I didn’t even know this existed before seeing it on a Roku and I was instantly like “why doesn’t the ps4 have this??”.
And then on my chromecast I saw for the first time “playing next episode in 5…4…3…2…1” thing like Netflix. What will it take to get that?
Also what would it take to get the PS4 app to accept DTS audio and actually send DTS audio?
If you guys can lick those three issues you will be gods.

Can’t comment on chapters, but I’m pretty sure they said the postplay screen is coming to PS4 (I even thought it was already there… But I don’t use mine for plex anymore).
DTS pass-through just isn’t something Sony’s platform allows apps to do for now… Wouldn’t hold my breath.

Any idea when Harmony remotes will able control the Plex PS4 app?
I second that. The harmony remote connects to the PS4 as a bluetooth HID. It works within the PS4 menus, as well as within Netflix and Amazon video. But it does not work in Plex.
i get glitches while playing a high bitrate movie and turn on subtitles …! could you please improve the player state on the next sony’s update for the ps4 4.0 , so that it can get much high process from the ps4 's hardware?, i want to use plex in my room as am using it on my living samsung’s smart tv , but i dont want to buy a smart tv again…
It sucks that theme music for TV Shows isn’t available on the PS4 Plex client. It’s not necessarily a big issue but I would love to hear a theme every time I go into a season of Mr.Robot.
It seems to work on my Xbox One so is there any reason why its not available on the PS4 app? Any knowledge if the team is working on this or a future possibility of including it?
Also some UI noise would be nice when navigating through / selecting shows and settings. The pure silence just seems weird.

That’s unfortunately out of our hand, If Sony improves the player or makes a better one available we will use it, but until they do we can only use the player they give us.

Are soft subtitles even an option on the new PS4 player/SDK?

This requirement is really not something we have some crazy obsession over , Some platforms allow us to ship all of the code with the package, (Fire TV, Samsung Tizen, Plex Media Player etc) and those apps work perfectly fine without internet connection, unfortunately for Playstation and most smart TVs we have no choice other than to rely on our servers which means an internet connection is required.
I realize this is a PS thread, but how do you get Plex working on FireTV without internet connection? If my internet is out, my FireTV becomes incapable of doing anything.

While I’m here, I’ll add a big +1 to the request for native subtitle support. Having my Plex server on a NAS with a crappy CPU makes direct play/stream absolutely critical. If I need to transcode a file for subs, it pretty much means I can’t play it at all.
I just wish Plex would ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NOT SHOW SUBTITLES UNLESS I SPECIFICALLY TURN THEM ON. Just because I’m a completionist, I include subtitles when I put stuff on my server. But just because they are there on my server doesn’t mean I want Plex always showing them to me during playback. It’s really annoying when watching multiple TV show episodes back to back and every new episode that starts I have to pause, go to settings, turn off subtitles, resume watching.
