Incorrect Aspect Ratio on PS4

A 4:3 anamorphic video displays with aspect ratio 1.3:1 on Plex for Mac.

The same video is displayed on PS4 with a ratio of 1.25:1 causing people to be rather slim.

Hi mindpower. You're right. Sony has a fix for us which will land in our next PSN app update.

The two coolest things for me: 1) being told that I am right 2) and that a fix is under way.

Good job!

nice a fix is coming never affected me much but great plex is ontop of the issues and getting things done.

So glad there's going to be a fix for this issue. Any idea when the update will be?

+1 this has been driving me mental since they acknowledged this as an issue 3 months ago!

Hope the update comes soon.

Yeah, any update on this issue mseeley? Please?

does this relate to dvd’s that have been digitized with handbrake? When I use handbrake with either the default settings or cropping (sides) I always get the black “pillars” when I play these files.

Any updates on this? Any anamorphic dvd content I have gets squished to 4:3 on the playstation app.

Me too…having this issue on both the PS3 and PS4 players. I’ve been doing my encoding with MakeMKV, and the videos play proper widescreen when playing them on my PC. Once they hit the PS4, though, everybody looks like they have been on an extreme diet.

I see you don’t want PMs so I’m just going to quote you and hope it alerts you somehow. What is the status on this? You said there was a fix coming back in April. What happened here?

Hi ApexAftermath, We’ve been having a very hard time getting a stable platform release from Sony.

I wish I had a platform release timeline to work against but we’re still waiting too. Sorry for the headaches and distorted videos.

Man, sounds like Sony have really dropped the ball on this one. I hope they’re not intentionally sabotaging Plex so more people will use their official video app. The whole situation must be just as frustrating for you as it is for us. Any chance you guys will be able to come up with some kind of workaround if Sony doesn’t come through with a solution?

We had a partial workaround but the workaround itself caused still other problems. We’re in discussion with Sony about this and hope to have a resolution before we start reaching in the screen and stretching the video by hand.

That’s a bummer. It’s too bad Sony is dragging their feet lately on things. They need to get it together because the XB1 has recovered from their mess of a launch now and if Sony gets any lazier the XB1 is going to eat its lunch.

Totally agreed. XB1 added MKV support too. It’s a little crazy to me that Sony has this kick ass platform while the video playback platform exposed to us is so limited.

Right now I have to change the aspect ratio settings on my TV to make my videos watchable but looking forward to a real fix. XB1 is looking better and better.

I’m happy with you using any Plex app that you like best, no doubt about that here!

We’re really anxious to get the anamorphic problem fixed. It’s been a thorn in our side to long it’s starting to grow new vines.

just chiming in to note this has been a major issue for me as well. I know its a Sony issue, but my excitement for Plex being on PS4, quickly waned when i found this issue. Its been affecting more and more of my content
