Play Locally on Server

ok, wow, that seems like a solution; I’ll try immediately and report back. Thanks.

Just don’t forget the PleXBMC Helper. It is needed for the remote control.

ok, I’ve found a solution, I think, to use the plex/web and still play locally on the server.

If using the Chrome browser and buying a Chromecast with a HDMI to mini audio jack adapter. I’ll attach the Chromecast to the Beosound amplifier, then I’ll initiate a cast from Chrome to Chromecast.

That’s a hack, but whatever floats the boat.

The Plexbmc was quite buggy and featureless compared to plex/web and the solution using plex/web with PHT didn’t work, cause there is a bug, where plex/web just looses connectiong with PHT at random intervals.

I ended up using Airfoil, which automatically captures the audio from the soundcard and redirects it over the network. The problem I face with this is that it takes 15 seconds to start up and sometimes you have to manually connect it. I’m looking for a better solution and I found this: http://www.eventsentry.com/blog/2009/04/running-linux-applications-on.html , so what I’ll try it launch Chrome from a GNU/Linux workstation connected to the audio adapter. I’d rather find a nicer solution, but I’m not sure what.

There is an audio-only Chromecast. You can ‘fling’ to it from a Plex client (e.g. Plex mobile app or Plex Web) and also from Airplay compatible and DLNA compatible devices.
Maybe that will work better for you:

No, it won’t, because as I already stated, I want this to happen automatically when I start the computer and Chromecast doesn’t do that; you have to click to cast every time. I want it automatic.

Sorry, this is old, but I am now in a similar situation as Famadorian.

I want to play the audio locally on the server running plex, while streaming the video through chrome on my laptop (mainly because I’m experimenting to have speakers attached to the server directly).

What solution did you end up using? Can you please post a detailed explanation? Thanks.

I have no solution to this stupid problem; I have to remote desktop into the computer.

Casting sucks, because you have to attach it every time, which is a no-go, and repeat function does not work with casting.
