Will provide snippet of when the attempt to connect occurs. A few piece of info as backstory.

  1. all other channels seem to work just fine.
  2. this channel always gets the error above.
  3. the hd-home run will report its got the channel going on tuner 0 and both it and the plex report the strength @ 100 and quality @ 81. The antenna has both a booster + a filter. Unplugging the booster and dropping the filter do nothing to solve the problem.
  4. The logs indicate it sees the channel, starts trying to use hardware acceleration, gets a few % in then gives up/times out.
  5. This is the only channel that reports as hvec.

At this point I’m thinking it has to do with the transcoder and it being slightly slow when it comes to processing this one channel in hvec. I have tons of hvec movies that transcode just fine but for some reason this channel is busted.

If i use the hd homerun app the channel plays fine.

Anyone able to provide any guidance?

Similar issues been going on for months for me. I typically have to do a server reboot to clear it up. At least in my case it has noting to do with signal strength. Yet another random error with LiveTV.

Interesting, I’m running on an Intel NUC with a proxmox LXC container that contains the plex media server. I’ve tried rebooting the container but not the whole NUC as thats a hassle. Seems like no amount of container reboots has worked so far but I’ll try the entire system.

I’m just running a straight up Windows 10 box with Hauppauge Quad PCI tuners (8 tuners). At first I though it may be tuner conflict with scheduled recordings but I was able to rule that out. See what else is going on when this happens?

I’m like 95% sure at this point its the ATSC 3.0 (which contains AC-4 audio) that is the real underlying issue.

If I pay the $0.99 for hvec codec on Windows 10 I can use the HD Homerun app and it plays the ATSC 3.0 stream just fine. I believe their strategy is to do some audio codec offloading and ship it back as something playable. Honestly I don’t really care at this point - I’m probably giving up on Plex and its LiveTV integration since I also cannot share it with family elsewhere without them being directly in the home group which is a dangerous proposition.

I also tried Jellyfin and while its more flexible sharing the live TV stream elsewhere it too has the same ATSC 3.0 channel problem which is wildly depressing. I guess the small silver lining is that at least the video plays (and looks good) but I get zero audio from the stream.

Really wish Plex would

  1. Fix ATSC 3 playback. I know they use ffmpeg but just branch it and add in a fix or something.
  2. Allow for sharing of antenna TV. Its over the air and free - I can’t think of a logical reason why I shouldn’t be allowed to share it.

Just found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_wg9ZlrIP8 it perfectly describes the problem and a work around. Not great but it makes sense and should be able to get the job done. I think I’m still stuck with Jellyin though since Plex wont allow my regular users to access the LiveTV from my server.
