I am getting a Playback Error. :“Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna” on all of my plex players. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the DVR. I can tune the HDHomeRun using the app on all the devices. When I go to the setting tab Manage - Live TV and DVR it shows the HDHomeRun with both tuner status buttons green. It has the correct IP address. Been doing it for a couple of weeks. I also noticed that I can no longer play trailers either. Not sure if this is related or not but both problems started at the same time. Please help.
This just started today for me. Getting something similar but only when using the Plex app on my Apple TV. So far I can tune in just fine using my iPhone and via Web but the app on my Apple TV tries to tune to the channel and then just dies and goes back to the guide. This appears to only be happening on LiveTV and Movies and TV shows on my server stream just fine.
wow, seriously nothing from anyone? hard to believe just me and @bigrednks are the only ones seeing this issue?
from what I can tell it is something with the apple tv plex app or something with the apple tv. i’m inclined to rule out the apple tv as i can stream other content with other apps just fine and as mentioned i can stream movies and stored tv shows from my plex server without issue. this only seems to be related to live tv via plex. the native hdhomerun app works just fine.
@Spunky17@bigrednks I’ve a similar issue starting about a week ago - unable to watch live TV on Plex through Apple TV. The app updated on my Apple TV on July 19. On July 20th, live TV worked but it required me restarting the Media Server to work correctly. Starting on July 21st, re-starting the server software didn’t help either. Didn’t really start digging into why this is happening until today due to being away from home.
Current setup:
Plex Media Server 1.27.2.5929 on Windows 11
Apple TV 4K, model A2169, tvOS 15.6 updated July 20
HD HomeRun Connect Quatro
Plex app version 8.6 updated July 19
Live TV works fine on devices running Plex (web player, app on iOS, app on Roku). Anything DVR’d streams perfectly fine and records flawlessly, but I’m assuming since it’s just a video file recorded directly from the tuner and not attempting to buffer and stream a live TV signal that’s why it’s working fine. Used the Channels app on Apple TV today and live TV works fine through that app.
Since the Plex app on Apple TV updated on the 19th and the most recent tvOS updated the next day, my gut tells me what others have already said: either the newest Plex app version isn’t working with live TV, the new tvOS update isn’t fully compatible with the latest Plex app version, or some combination of the two.
@enavyblue i hadn’t noticed this till wednesday but my friend that is a member of my plex home that has access to live tv told me that she has had issues for about a week which aligns with what you see. the catch here is that she wasn’t using an apple tv device but the native samsung smart tv app. either way, as my dad used to say, something is rotten in denmark. as mentioned i can’t believe we are the only ones seeing this.
I can’t explain it but I gave deleting the app a try yet again (did this about 4 times already) from my apple tv and reinstalled it just a little bit ago and tested live tv and to my amazement it was working! nothing else changed on my infrastructure, same network, same plex server version and even the app from the app store says it’s the same version. i did have to re-register the app with my plex account but other then that nothing different.
Same problem here. I am unable to tune into ANY live tv channels on my Apple TV from my HDHomerun. It does work view a web browser like Safari from a MacBook. VLC on the same MacBook plays the the live broadcast correctly.
Since my client auto updates, but my server does not I would assume this is is a client issue, but I could be wrong.
Client Device: Apple TV A1842
Client App version: 8.6 (3177)
Could I have Apple TV logs from the Plex for Apple TV app and debug server logs from Plex Media Server for this
In case the issue is to do with the server problem with hangs / lockouts that has just got fixed in beta 1.28.0.5999 - i would advise running with that and then getting the diagnostics if the problem persists
I have the same situation. It occurs in both 4k Apple TV generations, and it’s reproducible 100% with success every time…
This only happens when using the Old player. When shifting for the new player, the live tv channels play. This may be the reason @Spunky17 had success when uninstalling and installing again, because the new player is the default one.
My problem is that using the new player is not an option because of the really old problem reported in Here….
This is very disappointing, I really don’t understand what devs are doing in Apple TV development, really. What a mess.
I don’t have an Apple TV. This occurs on a Sony Android TV, Nvidia Shield Pro (2019), Nvidia Shield “tube”, Roku Ultra, and an Amazon Fire Stick 4K Max. I believe It is due to the Plex server and not the player, as it would be highly unlikely that all my players would go bad simultaneously. I am running the latest UNRAID docker version of the Plex Server.
@xppx99 I tried toggling the setting in the app between the old and new player as well with no success, i.e. Live TV would not play with either. However as I noted once I uninstalled it from my AppleTV and reinstalled it for the 4th time it started working and has been working fine ever since. At this time I can NOT reproduce what I was seeing before and we’ve missed the chance to debug it.
On a side note my friend I mentioned before, her’s started working just fine as well WITHOUT uninstalling and reinstalling it but now her volume is lower then mine viewing the same channel but not sure if it’s related or not.
This is likely because Plex changed something on the back end. The app likely doesn’t have all the components bundled together on install but instead is just a shell app that fetches components from the web on demnd enabling Plex to fix issues without issuing a new release.
I could be wrong but this would be my idea of why things stop working then all of a sudden start working even after “trying everything”.
Same issue here - Can watch Live TV on everything except the Apple TV app - Frustrating - Thought it was something on my end so started reinstalling/deleting things… glad to know its universal and on Plex’s side
