Plex Client for Apple TV Crashes On LiveTV (Antenna)

Client issue when trying to live play broadcast TV (antenna through HDHomerun). Will try to start the channel feed then crash back to the guide.

Checked server and all clients for updates and did any that were pending. No Change.

Power cycled the entire network and all devices. No Change.

Firesticks (2) work fine with no issues. So does the client (WinTel) running on the server (local-to-server admin). iOS client on the iPhone and iPad Mini both work fine too.

Using the HDHomerun app from iOS lets me see the broadcast feed “as fed” straight from the HDH - no problems. There were no pending updates to the HDH either.

I tried deleting and reinstalling the Apple TV app. That worked until the Apple TV was turned off for some time. Next use and the issue returned (corrupt update somewhere in the chain?).

Scheduling and watching recordings from broadcast work on all clients.

I am having the same issue. Plex live feed works in my HDHomeRun and all other devices. It works on my 2021 Apple TV 4K but now does not work with my first Gen Apple TV 4K. That is the only device of mine that is not working properly. The first Gen 4K Apple TV even plays through HDHomeRun fine. Would love to know how to solve it!

Hi, thanks for reporting this issue, and providing the logs they were super helpful in debugging this issue!

We think we’ve identified the issue and we’re working on a fix for an upcoming version. In the meantime we believe you may be able to work around this issue by changing both settings Auto Adjust Quality and Use Old Video Player to “Off”.

I’m having the same issue with both the Plex app for Apple TV (ver 8.6 [3177] and TVOS ver 15.6), and with the Plex iPhone app (ver 8.6). Like the OP I’m also connecting to a HDHomerun box. Plex apps for FireTV Stick 4k and LG TV work fine when viewing Live TV.

Excellent. I can’t ask for more. Thank you for continuing this labor of love.

My biggest concern (other than the bug) was that I described it completely without being overly verbose.

Ex-IT in me drives me to try.

The client had Use Old Play=Off. I switched Auto-Adjust to off… BINGEUX!

Please also fix this issue on Google TV. Any live TV channel that needs to be transcoded never plays on it and shows the spinning wheel.
