NAS : Synology DiskStation DS218 with DSM 7
Hello,
After a DSM 7 upgrade, I struggle to update the Plex Media Server package but finally succeeded after dealing with the permissions, thanks to this forum.
However, not possible to read any videos on my Plex App (Shield TV) or from the Browser.
I tried everything step by step, installing the last PMS package, updating permissions, removing and reinstalling with and without token, …
Finally I decided to try a last shot with uninstalling everything and start from scratch as if I was installing Plex from the first time. I proceeded like this :
Uninstall the package with the full cleaning option
Delete the Plex folder and recreate it with the proper permissions
Removing my NAS in the Server web interface
Install the last package available on Plex Website
Recreate my libraries
Everything went well:
All my media have been scanned
Media metadata did download and are well displayed
But unfortunately, still not possible to read a single video
It’s been 3 hours I’m trying to dig in the forum to find a solution but I can’t find…
Have you given user PlexMediaServer (System Internal User) permission to read all the files? (using FileStation to force permissions if needed to propagate through all subdirectories)
I see the scanner running for some content so know at least some can be read.
I’m not entirely convinced the issue is PMS here. It might be the player. The logs are clean.
What are the playback settings?
Original Quality
No refresh rate change (the shield can do this natively)
Yes I did it and rechecked several times, in all media folders and subfolders where I try to open videos.
I tried with full control (custom) and read/write permissions.
The videos are in different format but I was able to read them with no issues before migrating to DSM7, I tried to read already seen movies and shows but issue is the same. I can’t even read the movies provided by Plex
That’s why I think it’s more a player issue than a permission one
I did exactly what you ask and got the same issue on the web browser with no possibility to read the videos.
However, I did try to launch from my Shield Plex app and it worked!
Don’t know if it came from the last update since I didn’t tried since yesterday and my first issues, but since I mostly use Shield, then fine for me!
