DSM 7 cannot access media

Hi,
I’ve removed and installed Plex on V7 a dozen times checking for the correct permissions. All the thumbnails load and everything looks normal but everything shows as unavailable and Please check that this file exists and the drive is mounted. The files exist and I can see them in the file manager. I’m sure I’m missing something simple but I just can’t figure it out. I installed the libraries again but the shows don’t follow into the new library.

I’ve tried as many things in the forum that I could but for me, it hasn’t worked. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve done that. I also read to do it via the Custom tab also but that didn’t work either. Show I be following some sort of reset/reload procedure prior to or along with this?

I’ve read it 3 times but I seem to hit the same block each time.

Yes. I have triple checked that. A point I am confused on. Does Plex system files have to reside in the same directory structure as the videos files or simply on the same NAS volume?

I have upgraded to Syn V7 and feel like I’ve followed everything instruction to the letter so I’m missing something likely very simple and I need help. After the upgrade, I installed Plex and updated the permissions as stated and everything looks correct. When I start Plex, everything looks perfect along with all of the thumbnails and existing watched and unwatched files. However, when attempting to view anything it shows that it is unavailable.

I attempted to create new libraries and am able to see the directories on the NAS but the new libraries will not create. When I attempt to scan the existing libraries, it scans way too fast so obviously, it doesn’t see them. It seems to be a permission issue but for the life of me I can’t seem to get it straight after having read and re-read the installation instructions most of the day. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I hate asking for help but I’m really stuck. I read the entire document and honestly thought I was doing everything correct since so many people seem to have figure this out I thought I could do it but I’m sooo stuck. Here are the permission screens. They seem to be right?

Aarrrggghhh! Thank you for yelling at me. For some reason my brain was frozen. Got it!

I needed to be yelled at. I was being really dumb. Thank you. I mean it. I’ve been a Plex Pass member since the very beginning and I like to think I know a thing or two and when that happens being knocked down a notch or two is exactly what I need. Thanks again.

You should be here when I slap Trumpy around

I do have the same issue, however I granted read/write permission to my media folder. Is there any log file where I can check what kind of folder Please is tryin’ to reach?

On DSM 7 , the username has changed.

System Internal user → PlexMediaServer

Change the dropdown from “Local User” → “System Internal User” (new in DSM 7)

I know. I have this config, but has the issue still.

you must a have something custom (from the computer) down deeper.

Do this in FileStation.

Make certain to Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files*

I did. No success.
I always get this:

Is there any way to check any log file where it goes wrong?

That message is a reminder to you.

It may not address all problems but does address the vast majority.

This is how you remedy those which have something strange (holdover from DSM 6) in them

  1. Create a new permissions rule for PlexMediaServer

  2. Scroll down and select PlexMediaServer

  3. Set Read & Write permissions

  4. Apply to top level folder (the share) and all sub-folders & files.

  5. SAVE

I already gave Full Control to the folder where I only have media files for Plex, so unfortunately re-creating the permission has not solved issue (not even modified the existing settings):

The strange is: Despite of the received error message my Plex has been updated. I don’t know where this error takes effect.

May I have the Plex logs ZIP file please?

Please do a Scan Files on a library section which can’t see the media,
Let it finish,
Then download the logs.

I can’t see any missing media in Plex (or I just have not noticed any yet)
Here are the logs. I hope you asked these ones.Plex_logs.zip (2.9 MB)

Arggh… c’mon… That’s soo annoying…
