I upgraded from plex Version 1.32.1.6999 to Version 1.40.0.7998. Everything seems to be fine, but now I;m getting slow respnse or Playback Error - there are no playable items on nearly all movies that I never had before.
I have synology DS1520+ and all devices are Roku Sticks or Ultra.
I guess I might need to go back to Version 1.32.1.6999.
Here are my logs:
Plex Media Server Logs_2024-02-19_09-05-17.zip (6.4 MB)
I want to keep this open. I am as of yesterday having this issue. It seems to happen randomly and I have not changed settings in years. I downloaded and re-installed Plex Version 1.40.2.8395. It still happens.
@troy.brisbin @HAT_PLEX_GHOST
May I please have fresh logs which are captured (downloaded) immediately after (re) creating the problem?
I looked through the logs provided and there aren’t the expected Permission Denied errors.
You are going to have to wait a bit. I forced a metadata refresh and it will take some time unless you can tell me how to stop the referesh… kill the app?
UPDATE:: I rebooted the server this should hopefully kill the metadata refresh and I will provide the logs.
@ChuckPa Logs attached.
Plex Media Server Logs_2024-05-06_12-43-35.zip (2.1 MB)
NOTE:: I tried rollback to 1.40.0.7998 but it errored on “soci_core.dll”. Updated it to 1.40.1.8227 and it also errored out on “soci_core.dll”. Updated to 1.40.2.8395. Plex Server started however we are back to random no playable items.
@troy.brisbin
Looking at your logs (thank you),
- You’re using multiple layered routers?

I’m not seeing actual playback.
I am seeing reference to playlists which seem to “just stop”.
Is this where the issue is?
@ChuckPa
Works perfectly using https://app.plex.tv from my browser and it plays if I go direct http://x.x.x.x:32400 from my browser. It does not play on my iPhone using the Plex App when I am on my local network, nor does it play using the Plex App on my Carrier’s service.
Yes, there are two different networks provided by Comcast/Xfinity in my house, family and business. 10.0.0.x is family and 10.1.10.x is business with the plex server being on the business network (making it easier to manage/maintain/backup + ups) hence the static route of 10.0.0.x:32400 to 10.1.10.x:32400 and I have had it in this configuration since 2017 without any issues.
I litterally did not know there was an error until I went to watch a video yesterday. I am using a Roku+Plex App in my office. I have not tried the Amazon Cube or the Smart TV Plex Apps.
Note: I am getting playback on files/titles that have been in my collection for years on Roku. I am getting random playback errors on files added within the last 2 weeks. I have even tried deleting the file. Ripping and converting(mkv) again from the BluRay disc to no avail. The file still plays via app.plex.tv however.
I am at a loss.
NOTE 2: I just on a whim downloaded Emby server and the videos that are not playing on Plex play perfectly.
I’ll walk through this, because there’s a lot here, in a numerical outline order so we don’t miss anything

Thanks for explaining the manual port forwarding double NAT. Most cases I see are unaware of it and trying to figure out why Remote Access doesn’t work.
-
Please clarify which browser you’re using. Safari or Chrome/Chromium or FireFox ?
-
Either https://app.plex.tv (the hosted version of the Plex/web app) or bundled (http://x.x.x.x:32400) both play whether WAN or LAN?
-
It seems clear your iPhone Plex app does not play whether WAN or LAN?
-
Roku app does not play whether WAN or LAN ?
-
For those files which play and those which do not play, let’s see if we can capture the DEBUG server logs of one which does not play
-
I’m familiar with Emby. Both Plex and Emby use FFMPEG at the core. They build/compile their version differently. I know the differences between the two. If one of your “Plex-non-play” does play perfectly in Emby … with the logs, I can figure out where it’s deviating.
I already have a conjecture but need data to formalize it
Is this a Windows update you had?
(You know I’m NOT a windows guy)
Looking at this, Plex sees something else is terminating connections / playback.
Windows has all that extra ‘protection’ stuff ?

Was just going to provide an update and I saw your update. I replaced all of my network cables that correspond with the PMS / switches and cables to the Roku in my office.
I guess I would have to pose the question regarding our test. It will not play KFP 4, but it will play Ricky Stanicky queued left and Butcher, Book 2 queued right (by release date). If I look at date added it will play The Assissin queued left and The Kid with the Golden Arm queued right.
For giggles, I looked downloaded Godzilla v. Megalon short off of YouTube converted it from WEBM to MKV. Runs perfect.
I will check the windows logs.
@ChuckPa
Nothing in any of the windows logs, the anti-virus logs, or the router logs showing failed connects.
OK. This is extremely strange. For giggles, I decided to unmatch two of the files that are having an issue. Then rematching them.
You will not believe this. They play.
I have just tracked down the other 2 files that have been an issue proceeded to unmatch/match again. They play.
Note: All of these files were added within the last 16 days. Everything else has always worked perfectly.
So I am going to write that one down. Unmatch the file and the match the file again if it cannot find the file / no playable items. I am guessing that there was a match failure/timeout/network hiccup at some point which caused the issue.
NOTE:: Rebooted the server which PMS is installed on to verify my “lucky” fix worked. Indeed it did. It worked.
I want to thank you for your assistance in looking at the logs!!! If you want me to send you a log with a working Kung Fu Panda 4 let me know.
Again, thank you for your time, patience, and assitance!
