Server Version#: 1.17.0.1709-982421575
Player Version#:
Title says it all. For whatever reason after I upgraded from 16.5.1552 to 1.17.0.1709-982421575 my web player is fine in Chrome but when I try to access on all my Roku devices internally on the same network, I get the generic “Playback has stopped due to multiple playback errors” error.
This occurred after having to install the latest release manually in DSM, then having to re-apply my folder permissions (which is annoying, every single time after an update.)
After looking through PMS settings and verifying everything was fine as far as settings go, the only solution to resolving this was to uninstall PMS from my Synology DS918+ and re-install it through the Package Center. I am now back on v1.16.5.1552 and fear updating to v1.17.0.1709-982421575 again.
Similar issue - upgraded to 1.17.0 and now I cannot play video that has aac 5.1, even though they worked before the upgrade. Failure to play is on Windows and Roku, iPad works fine.Plex Media Server Logs_2019-09-28_14-16-55.zip (3.8 MB)
Thanks! I resolved my odd network issues by rebooting ALL the devices on the network. Like I mentioned, I could connect with the iPad, but not a Windows device. Just bad luck that whatever went crazy was at about the same time as my upgrade of Plex.
Not the cause of your issue, but reading this I have to ask; do you have your media in the same Shared Folder as the PMS install? If so, this isn’t recommended.
You should store your media in a separate shared folder and grant the plex user read or read/write permission to that folder. This will resolve your issue of granting permissions after every update, and better protect your media (if you grant read only permissions.)
This issue still persists after installing Version 1.17.0.1841. Not sure what is changing in the file system but have checked permissions and they look all clear. It only occurs after updating from v1.16.5.1552 to anything newer.
@Scott-M appreciate the response, I have since moved my media to another directory out of the PLEX folder and I’m good there now.
But the issue still persists when trying to stream media. I can view the content fine on Roku and view all media in the libraries but it only occurs when I go to play the content… and it’s all content (.mkv, .mp4, etc.)
Here is a screenshot of the message when browsing to content, and trying to play it:
Rebooted the Roku device I am testing on (but this occurs on all Roku devices I have in my home.)
Completely removed the PLEX channel from my Roku
Rebooted Roku
Re-added the PLEX channel
Logged out and back into the PLEX channel and it still gives the same message.
Streaming to my Phone via the PLEX app for Android works fine while on-network and off-network, as well as my iPad Pro running iOS 13.1.2 while on-network.
upgraded to Version 1.18.0.1913
But still shows the message " Playback Error
Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted." Logs.zip (771.6 KB)
Please give user Plex permission to read or read/write in your media shares

@ChuckPa - interesting, the directory /volume1/videos doesn’t even exist. My directory for my media files is /volume1/media and the plex user has permissions…
@ChuckPa - All I needed to do off your instructions was delete everything in my Codecs folder, re-launch PLEX, update PMS and I’m good now.
I still have no idea why you’re seeing the directory /volume1/videos because it never existed on my Synology DS918+… that’s odd. And it is not specified in the Library folders either.
Either way, I’m good now! Thanks for the help @ChuckPa!
