How do I roll back the version on my Insignia?

com.plexapp.android_6.12.0.3239-683723376_minAPI16(armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.zip (25.0 MB)

Unzip the attached APK to a USB drive. Plug it into your TV. You will need to enable installations from unknown sources in Settings. Here is a link that explains how to do that: Enable Apps from Unknown Sources Amazon Firestick & Fire TV. Then you will need to download an app that will allow you to browse the USB drive. ES File Explorer will do the job. Open the APK from the USB drive and follow the installation prompts.

You will need to uninstall the existing app before you do this.

Sweet Thanks. Any way that I can get it to show up on my Fire home screen?

It will show up on it’s own after it’s installed.

Just had the same issue with Android client and Linux server. Forced the Android client to play no higher than 720p 2Mbps in Settings and problem went away.

When originally troubleshooting, I turned quality all the way down to 320p and it still won’t play. I also tried lowering the h264 level and it still won’t play. It is definitely not a hardware issue, because h264 will play fine on the older app (6.12.0.3239).

Great, so now this is happening on both of my TVs. Was already happening on my Insignia FireTV, and now it’s happening on my Toshiba as well.

This needs to get fixed ASAP. It’s bad enough I couldn’t watch Plex while laying in bed, now I can’t watch it in my living room, either!

I’ve literally had enough with this and am going to vet alternatives. This has been an off and off problem for awhile now and only affects my Shield. What’s worse is the family account which doesn’t have the adult content starts showing the category despite not having access. I’m DONE with this. I have a insanely powerful PC the media is on, the device and PC in question are hard wired in. This is unacceptable and I’m done. Thanks PleX

I changed my settings down to 720p, and the situation resolved itself. When I played the movie, it said 'Updating player support ’ or something along those lines.

Important to note, I switched the playback back to ‘Maximum’ and everything is still working.

This is STILL an issue on Insignia Fire TV. How is it possible for this issue to persist for this long. How. It’s ridiculous. [edit] Oh look, still not fixed.

I just installed an Android 9 rom on my LG G6(H872) based off of stock android instead of LG’s custom 7.0, now Plex works flawlessly!

So I wouldn’t be surprised if most of these issues are from building for newer android causing it to have issues with older hardware and libraries. Well that or LG’s stock roms are trash, which is probably just as likely. I’m curious what kind of hardware the devs test, the sheer amount of platforms they support would cut into specific device support with the massive fractured mess that is Android.

Like many here, I’m also growing frustrated of the ongoing issues. I have the Plex app on the Fire TV Stick. Before the interface change (to look more like the Desktop program), everything was working very nicely. No hiccups and issues on 1080p Blu-ray remuxes. Ever since the change, the Fire TV app has been trash. The temporary fix I’m using for now is using PlexKodiConnect and flinging my media to Kodi. Videos seem to play fine, but it’s not as neatly organized as my Plex setup, unless I go into the add-on itself (I have different categories of movies, like short films, specials, etc. and different categories of TV shows, like mini-series and web series). Even the ancient PS3 app seems to play media fine for the most part. The error mentioned in the OP had never occurred before until the interface change. Everything else plays smooth, so I know it’s not the WiFi (the PC that hosts the media is wired). I hope this is fixed one day, but I won’t hold my breath there…

You can customize Kodi to also respect/show your Plex libraries. See here for more Infos and instructions: Video Nodes and Skins · croneter/PlexKodiConnect Wiki · GitHub

@sixones any update on the fix for an insignia fire tv? I can’t play anything and like the previous poster I tried adjusting H264 all the way down as well as my quality and nothing helped.

I’m on version 7.21.0.12323.

@hazardousmedic it seems there’s never going to be a fix! Yes I’m back to, server running smoothly after moving home to!
What I have noticed, is the latest version was able to play files right up until our broadband was switched on. As a thought it could be 2 fold of an issue, as my server wasn’t signed in when I was able to play locally, but as soon as I connected the broadband and Plex server was signed in, the latest and greatest version folded.
So @sixones now I’ve found this issue that could be the problem, you can now give it to the Developers as we’ve waited long enough from v7.15.xxx to now.
Hope I’m wrong but if anyone else can reproduce this by signing the server out from Plex and allow the Android app to play files locally via Plex server and it works, then we’ve done it!!

Has not worked for me since at least May. Multiple server updates. Multiple client updates. PleX support has been beyond unacceptable on this issue. Unfathomable to me that they cannot, or will not, roll back non functional “updates”. Pathetic.

It’s finally fixed for me. I’m running server version 1.18.0.1846 and app version 7.23.0.12806-beta on my Insignia Fire TV. H264 is now playing normally.

My mom has the same TV. I will report back if its working for her as well after I run the updates.

I can confirm that the 7.23.0.12806-beta client fixes H264 playback on Insignia Fire TVs. In addition to my TV, my mom’s Insignia TV is working after I sideloaded the beta. The version available in the Amazon App Store does not work, but the beta does. You can download it here: Release Announcements - Android TV beta.

I’m still experiencing this error on the Fire Stick using any version of the Plex client higher than 6.12. My server is the latest 1.18 version. This only happens with specific H.265 files, and the problem is clearly that the transcode process isn’t starting up. It wouldn’t be so bad if I could at least force transcode like I can with the Roku Plex app, but that setting is unavailable with the Android version.

It’s been over a year and a half. Will this ever be fixed? I’m not a Plex Pass member solely because of this bug and the fact that there’s apparently no interest in fixing it.

Thanks for the tip, this helped me fix this issue.
