OK so I have a weird issue with playback on the Xbox One, it doesn’t happen on any other devices, I’ve tested with OSX, IOS, Windows and PS4.
Basically when I start playing an episode of a TV show (file format doesn’t seem to be a factor as it’s literally any TV show) the playback is stuttered as in playing a few frames then stopping for a slit second then playing a few more frames and continues like this.
However, if you wast forward a couple of minutes into the program it plays smoothly again, and you can go back to the beginning to start again with no issues.
But then if you start another episode, the same again.
I thought it may be a CPU issue but seeing as it only happens with TV shows and not movies and happens whether the file is mkv, mp4, mov, avi etc this doesn’t seem to be the issue.
I am running the server on a pentium dual core 3GHz cpu, 8GB ram, running windows server 2012r2 essentials all wired into the LAN.
You are describing the exact sympoms NXOE users are experiencing at the moment.
So => Are you in the Xbox One Preview programme?
If yes => This is a known issue. The only workaround for now is to disable Direct Play in the Plex app.
If you don´t want to do that you can wait 5-10 seconds and hit the left-D-pad so you jump back to the beginning of the episode and it should play smoothly.
Just came here to find out if this was a known issue. Got my son a new Xbox One on 11/5 and finding all TV shows (mkv) stutter. Haven’t tried the d pad trick yet.
What is the NXOE and the Preview program? I just downloaded the app and signed in with my PlexPass ID…
What is you and your son’s setup? I’ve noticed some light stuttering on initial playback when streaming MKV from a remote server, but it resolves itself after a couple of seconds.
(NXOE and Preview are the new Xbox UI that will appear in the next few days, and we’ve had some stuttering issues there, hopefully resolved now though!)
Plex Server lives on a new 5k iMac with an i7 processor. I’ve had no stuttering on iPad streaming the exact same shows.
The show typically starts and goes for 1-2 minutes before freezing, stuttering and picking up only to repeat a few minutes later. If I try to go back I’ll get a Plex message that an unknown error occurred and to Retry or Go Home (trying to recall now). If I go Home, I’ll get a white spinning disk on black background for a bit before it fixes itself.
Tried this with Xbox One in wired and wireless setups. Happy to add more info if helpful. Literally never had this behavior even on old 2011 iMac and a hacked AppleTV2…
I am on the NXOE preview and ALL my MKV videos stutter. Movies & Tv shows. Everything. Just tried to play some videos yesterday and the problem stil exists.
I am running PLEX off my laptop with a external hard drive. Server runs fine off the laptop, but when running movies on my Xbox One the movies lock up once and awhile. I am also running PLEX on my Xbox 360 and it runs without issue on that console. I have some issues with Netflix on the One also. Is there something wrong with the setup on the Xbox One that is causing this problem?
