Playback on a device with a very slow connection

Server Version#: current
Player Version#: current
Hi all, I have a friend with an ipad, her connection is throttled to 1mbs. Plex just won’t play on it. The ipad works fine when its unthrottled on the system but her ISP knocks her to 1mb after she uses 4gb of data. We have tried adjusting quality down to 0.7mb but it still won’t play. Any obvious suggestions on something that can help? The server is a Ryzen with plenty of power up its sleeve for transcoding on the fly.

Are you sure the throttled limit is 1 Mbps? Most cellular providers I’ve seen throttle to 2G speeds, which is 0.1 Mbps.

Yup, it’s 1mbps, checked on nperf. It plays youtube and ondemand tv. Plex is a no go.

There isn’t a reason Plex shouldn’t work with a 1 Mbps connection. Is she able to provide the ios logs from the app after trying to play again?

She’s a bit non techno. I think asking that is not going to be simple. I’m in New Zealand and we are on lockdown so no chance of getting to her. It’s also 2.5hrs away. All good. I’ll get her netflix for the month. If you think of anything would love to know though.

Can you get me your PMS logs when she tries to play something?
