adding a “me too”. updated to latest plex and latest win updates for windows 10 and my collection is now unplayable… version PlexMediaServer-1.18.1.1973-0f4abfbcc-x86.exe
For me it appears to be a complete crash and reboot of my plex server according to event logs.
Also confirm that reverting back to 1.14.1.5488 fixed the issue
Have managed to get a copy of 1.14 (a mission in itself - no archive on Plex I could find) from another user sclintow (thanks heaps by the way). Cant yet confirm whether the situation has been resolved. BUT considering how many users are having this problem, I’d REALLY like to help getting a proper resolution. I havent seen anything useful in the logs but am happy to re-install one of the other versions and help debug. I am running PMS on CentOS 7.
PMS ver: Version 1.18.1.1973
My wife yelling at me the Chromecast is pausing her shows.
Fix pls.
Just read this seens to work
I had the same problem. It makes NO SENSE but clear out the “Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than” setting in Settings > Network and then save changes.
I’ve done limited testing but it seems to completely solve the problem for me. Files that were unplayable due to pausing in the first minute on every cast now play fine.

Doing some research, I found out this isn’t a bug it’s a feature: Plex intentionally stops after a while if you aren’t watching a playlist
I also found a workaround.
If you make a playlist of the items you want to shuffle and play that, playback continues in perpetuity.
So for example, if you want to shuffle all your shows, just go to the Shows page and create a playlist.
SOB, I really liked that feature. But PROBLEM SOLVED!
I would rather ■■■■ pause forever, than stop in the middle.
cheers
glad it worked for you
This is also a problem I’m having. At seemingly random times my playback will stop and the video will act like it’s loading. I have to pause and unpause the video to get it to come back, which is getting very annoying.
I would really appreciate a fix other than a server rollback.
Same here.
I recently installed Plex on a DigitalOcean droplet. My issue is very specific - Plex only stops playing randomly on content played through a NAS drive that is connected through CIFS to the cloud server (the drive is at home) AND I am watching on my Samsung TV.
Content from online sources (e.g. OneDrive) does not stop.
Watching content from the same NAS drive on Plex Android and casting to Chromecast does not stop.
It’s only the specific combination that makes it stop, which is frustrating as we’d much rather use the native TV app than fiddle with our phones all the time.
My users are also having random playback stopping as though the file reached the end (even though it didn’t).
Server Version 1.18.2.2058 on Debian with a couple different versions of Plex for Mac client, including latest.
I am having this same issue. It makes watching content, unplayable. If not transcoded it works for several minutes then stops, any transcoding won’t play at all
Same here, this problem has been randomly plaguing me for over a year! Every time I try to play anything on an external network, the damn video keeps pausing for no reason. Just this evening I tried again at my gf’s house and while casting to a chromecast device, sure enough the damn movie ended up freezing up and I couldn’t get it to start again. Just ended up going on Netflix to finish the movie! WTF guys, fix this ■■■■ already! The hell with your new features and fix what is already in place! So tired of this. I paid for this and I can’t even use it outside my house!
yeah same here, across every device. roku, firetv, nvidia shield … with and without direct-play.
Linux Server.
“The hell with your new features and fix what is already in place! So tired of this.”
exactly !!

This isn’t a server problem. I’m just now only learning the Shield.
i’m using Linux. So this cross-platform. also i don’t think this is purely based on clients, since this is across every single client (except WEB).
Same here, across all devices. Server Version 1.18.4.2171
why across all devices/platforms for so many users if not server based ?
i give you a hint - because it is Server related
Here for an obilgatory “same here”. I have this problem with at least 3 devices not always in the same network.
Also here for the ‘same here’ response. I had assumed it was my media, then it was happening to so many different pieces of content that I googled it and stumbled myself here. I’d like to think that this isn’t a horse-power problem either.
