we have the same problem. Only way to fix it is to reboot the playback.
I canât believe this has been going on since Feb 19, for a few months now I have had the same problem on and off, not sure what has changed but itâs now unbearable as now When I click play I watch the bandwidth sky rocket to buffer a head like you would normally expect but after that initial burst it then dies right down to a few kbps but never starts bursting again the video will play for around 6-10mins before stopping, if you bring up the controls while watching you can see where itâs playing and where itâs buffered up to, but the buffer never moves again. When I go through the logs which I have attached I always find Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected after xxxxxx bytes: 10054 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
The logs I have attached only shows for one media file but the same thing happens for whatever content I watch. I first thought it was hardware issue, I replaced network cables, used a spare switch, used wifi only, used different devices, web, 2 different shields, HTPC, all with the same result at some stage it comes up with the client disconnected in the logs. I also moved the Plex server (install) to another computer to rule out the Windows 10 PC, same thing happened on another windows 10 PC. I did a fresh install and just moved over the watch status, same thing happened on both Windows 10 PCâs. It wasnât until I came across a thread yesterday so I removed plex (kept local application intact though) and reinstalled with an old version of the plex server prior to 1.15.0.659 and what do you know it fixes the problem. How has the plex team not fixed this problem yet, I understand that it may not affect everyone but itâs obviously a known issue. I also have a few family members that watch content remotely and they very rarely (as in weeks) have any issues. Iâm like WTF they have a better experience over the internet than I do on my local network. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Yup, refer to my post above, definitely a server side issue, why I donât know but I get the same error failed to stream media on 3 different clients, shield, web, HTPC.
I will appreciate a link to a working version as well. Does 1.15 support hardware transcoding as well?
I found a plex based link for version 1.1.4
I had good luck with transcoding on 1.16.6.1592. Anything after this causes problems with playback cutting in and out. Check here for previous server versions: https://www.videohelp.com/software/Plex/old-versions
Note that TV artwork is going to stop working after today for versions older than 1.18.2.
awesome⊠again, users know whats going on, devâs give a â â â â . right @ChuckPA ?? THIS IS SERVER RELATED !!! AND ITS ANNOYING LIKE HELL. EVERY DAY, EVERY PLAY, ON ALL DEVICES. FOR MONTHS NOW. following the first post, this issue was introduced in late 1.14 ! it is so freaking obvious. read this topic!
I would like to report that following my posts in September 2019 I have been on 1.14.1.5488 and have never encountered the issue anymore. Being on this old server version will probably break things in the future though, as the gap in my server and client version is only getting bigger and bigger. For now, I donât see any problems though.
yeah, seems downgrade is the only option. obviously DEVs like @ChuckPA have decided to ignore this server-bug
Happens a lot on my Samsung TV.
Playback just stops and the movie watch status is not saved. No error on client. Just like the movie reached the end and the client returns to the movie info screen.
So 1.18.6.2368 still has this problem. By the looks of it, nobody at Plex has any clue what causes this. (that is if they are even looking into it)
I understand if the internet connection drops, my session might drop also, but at least remember my watch status!
has nothing to do with connection drops. the buffer should handle small drops. but this is obviously server related. maybe turning off the relay feature helps ( Plex stops working randomly after last update )
Relay is disabled for quite some time now. No soup.
Would you be able to replicate the issue then download and share your logs? The more info from people, the more likely we can identify the issue.
Make sure you read the log posting guidelines first.
happened again between last 2 playbacks

this still happens multiple times a day per every single client (across all OSs)
anything ??? happens EVERY DAY MULTIPLE TIMES
+1 for the topic. Been nagging for the last couple of updates. Just stops. Sometimes will restart on itâs own. Other times if I âdiddleâ with it, itâll go on.
Certainly isnât normal.
Here are 3 server log sets. Each time stamped within moments of the system playback stopping. One at 1355, next at 1422 and then not again until 1717.
So this happened 2 times within an hour and then ran a couple of hours before stopping again.
I am noticing that the little progress slider that shows up when things are playing in a gold yellow color but very faintly there appears to be some sort of âbufferâ loading in advance of the progress slider moving along⊠when the playback stops, that buffer stops advancing as well.
If I move the slider forward it wonât work but if I slide it back, then the part that has played already will play again and continues until it gets to that same spot in playback and it stops again. (and no buffer fill seems happening) OR sometimes itâll just play on and youâll see that âbufferâ loading up in advance of the playback.
I have my Plex server running quite a bit throughout the day as I work from home so most always have music shuffling on the server.
I have also noticed this happen when Iâm just trying to listen to one specific album.
It may or may not play the whole album without stopping.
Very annoying.
I havenât watched a lot of video yet via Plex so I canât be sure itâs all music releated.
But it is a real issue. And having worked with ChuckPA on issues on my Linux systems before I know heâs awesome. And I note heâs said not a server issue, but weâre all experiencing the same thing on dissimilar machines, dissimilar internet providers, dissimilar operating systems. How can it not be a server or software issue?

Running Version 1.18.6.2368 at this point and Iâm running the server all day today on my desktop (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/)
Appropriately I thought⊠Genesis was running âTell Me Whyâ and hung.
There are two logs attached in case they help.
One from the moment it stopped.
Then a few minutes later it started up again right where it left off.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-02-21_19-19-08.zip (4.2 MB) Plex Media Server Logs_2020-02-21_19-12-49.zip (4.2 MB)
Player Version 4.22.2
Server Version 1.18.7.2438
I donât see an active thread with a Linux tag but this is on a CentOS7 system.
Have installed the latest server and running a lot this weekend.
Several times the server has stopped. Iâd keep adding logs but not sure it serves a purpose as several have been added.
Do advise if I should keep adding logs.
yeah, this thread is not only for windows. itâs across every device, every server-OS and every day ⊠#1 major bug in Plex right now.
but just as expected - devâs gives a sh*t
yup, exact same problem, upgraded to the latest, now no matter what device, what player, what location, it freezes about 8-10 minutes in, i have to go out and back in, and sometimes i get the message that this file canât be played try restarting the client and the server.
