Playbook Client/Android Client Port

With the release of the Playbook OS 2.0, it now has a functional android player. Does anyone know if the Devs plan on making an official port of the Android PLEX Client to run on the Playbook Android Player?

I would love to know as well. Apparently it's very simple to port over with the Android player. Hopefully the devs can do it, and then eventually work up to a full native Playbook app port.

With HDMI out, I'd love to use my Playbook as a remote player, and as a home media player connected to my HDTV.

Yes please!!! I’m currently thinking of buying this device! I the port can be done, the decision is already taken

Add me as another person who would purchase the Plex app for BlackBerry PlayBook. This tablet is so much nicer than my Android flavored tablet. Just a few missing apps will really make it rock including Plex. I have Plex on my Google TV but having it on the Playbook would make the Media Server on my PC more valuable.

Count me in as well!!

As I said in another post - It would make my Plex experience complete if I could run the app on my playbook.

As it stands I converted a paid Android apk (vs. 2.0.33) over to a bar (playbook app) and although it loads great, connects and plays media etc over 3G it doesnt work over wifi.

Please Mr Plex - you dont even have to provide a native client - just a converted app would be fine as long as wifi worked. I would pay $$.

I did the same thing and I can't play anything over wifi. I think it might be a codec problem. All of my media are h264 encoded video files with dd5.1 ac3 or aac audio wrapped in an .mkv container. None of it will play :(

I have as well. I can connect over an external wifi network or 3G, but no connection within my home network, I can see my server, but errors when trying to connect!!

Remotely playing media......The issue I am having is playing the media. I-tunes music no problem.... Can-t play any video-s regardless of the Format!

Yep, music works fine for me, but video does not.

It’s so difficult make the native Playbook client?

I can’t believe they have a WebOS client and not one for the Playbook,

why the hate to Blackberry?

As it stood in July I would have agreed that it would prob not be worth it but now that PCworld and Currys here in the UK have reduced the 64gb playbook to £129 they are selling like the proverbial hotcakes and therefore a lot of people are now asking about a plex port/android compatible port

I agree, It seems as RIM improves their OS & has dropped their base pricing There us a huge influx of new PLaybook owners!! I have seen may playbooks in the wild, as well with friends and familly!!

Noticed you have the plex pass. Do you have access to the Web based player yet. Interesting if that works on the playbook.

I was hoping it would, as this was my main reason for Purchasing plexpass. The web player loads quite nicely on the playbook, but it errors on playing movies, "There was an error decoding this media. The media format may not be supported". I don't know if this is a playbook issue, or an issue with my media type. I tried a couple different file types, but they all seem to have the same issue.

That would be the my reason to buy the plexpass also. Hell I will probably buy it anyhow as have used plex for years (purchased versions for IOS, android and currently WP7).

It really would be much easier if the android port worked perfectly (was going to say can’t be something major if everything works across 3g but everything but movies across wifi)

Will keep checking in case they work out what the problem is with the web player.

thanks

Did video's work for you over 3G? i have only been able listen to music!! I had tried the webplayer on my Blackberry 9860, in which it gives me an error "Browser supporting HLS or Flash require" both of which the playbook support, so Still not sure if there is something we can do to get this working!!

I added a post to the webplayer section in the plexpass members forum, but no ones given any replies as of yet!! I get the impression there are alot of Blackberry Haters out there@!!

Just letting everyone know who is not a plexpass member, that with today’s OS update for the playbook, we can now stream movies using the Web client!!

Not only that, now my side-loadedandroid plex app works too! It isn't 100% and I haven't updated the app in a long time, but videonow works.

Would be a good time for the Dev's to submit it to appworld!!

I would love to test your Playbook App. I have the Android App and it works pretty good on my Nexus 7, but it would be a real advantage to have it working on my Playbook too.
