As more and more updates are sent out, they played/Unplayed status of episodes gets worse and worse. I use my account across many platforms (Android, Roku, fire stick, etc) and when I finish an episode, the service has a 50/50 chance of the server seeing and marking that episode played and in turn doesn’t get past on to my other clients. Anyone else having this issue and/or a solution?
Depends on the player. I know that the android player on my Fire tablet does not update the “On Deck” section upon launch. I need to drag down from the top to “refresh” the page for them to update from the master server. Perhaps whatever app you are playing on that didn’t update needs a refresh.
In Android on my Shield, it can fail to update what episodes in a series have been watched if I go from the show right back to the episode list. I then need to back out of the season, then go back in for the player to retrieve the “played” episodes and it puts the checkmark on.
Seems to me to be a “UI update” issue in some of the apps. I think it needs to refresh more often for more actions. Either the devs didn’t catch the specific cases I found (and I could give a better description if they cared enough about it to know), or they don’t want to have the apps update too often.
With me, I can finish an episode on any of the apps and that same app will show it has finished but for some reason, no matter how much time goes by (hours, days, weeks) the server either never sees that the episode has been completed or sees it and just doesn’t mark it as complete. This happens more than it working properly does.
So paying more attention, exactly what happens is, the mobile client (Android, iOS, FireTV, etc) will see the episode as finished, remove the download because the episode is finished, but the server is only told the episode is 90% done everytime. Doesn’t matter what device it is watched on, that device sees it’s finished, performs the actions to the download it needs to take depending on the download criteria set for that show, removes the episode, and the server is never told anything past the 90% complete.
When google the issue, I am seeing more and more people with the same problem. No one has come up with a solution?
Sorry, I don’t seem to have the issue at all. Either that, or I fail to understand the issue. I have no problem at all getting an episode to be marked as watched across the many devices/OSs that I run on a daily basis. Windows player, Shield android app, Roku player, iOS (phone) player, Fire tablet android tablet. On some apps, I need to make sure to back out of playing a video (particularly the Fire tablet) or else that video is permanently retaining the partial-watched status of that show until I load up the app and close the video.
So, if I set up a show to download 3 unwatched episodes on way my Android mobile app, I watch 1 episode, that episode will show up onto Android app as played, and it will remove that episode and download a new unwatched episode as it should. But when you go to the server. That episode never gets marked as played and as a result the only device that knows it was played was the Android app because it was played on there. The server never marks it as played and as a result no other devices see it as played.
Sounds like this is related specifically to downloaded content and the sync of info rather than purely “played\unplayed” marking. Since the offline mechanism has changed - download vs sync - it does seem possible that something could be off.
It might be useful to load up some logs. Go through your process and then grab the logs from the server a few minutes after your test process and maybe something in there can catch it.
Cool. I will do that later today. Appreciate the advice
Looks like some other folks are having same issue as well: Continue playback feature lost when using downloaded/synced content?
Cross-linking for the extra info (their logs are there too).
And here we are…yet another update and yet this issue that is for one of the most basic functions of this service IS STILL BROKE. Why does so much goofy crap that I hear no one complain about, show up as fixed in the update logs and stuff like this still isn’t touched???
It’s clearly not something affecting everyone.
Did you ever upload those logs as suggested.
Other peoples logs in a different thread aren’t really relevant.
It’s just better if you are convinced the linked thread is the exact same as yours to take it to the other thread and upload logs there.
If you don’t I may get another 30 day ban from the forums again.
Or just use the r/Plex on Reddit.
It’s a better form of support.
Odd. Because the dozen or so Android Plex users I know all have the issue.
Ah right.
My apologies. I gave up on any Android client a long time ago in Plex. But it’s a mixed header including Roku.
But if your issues are the same as the thread linked then it may be worth a shot posting logs there.
And my Reddit comment still stands.
