Watching any video with AirPods connected pausing and unpausing with the remote control works correctly (and can pause/unpause with the AirPods too).
BUT — Watching the same show (mp4, 1280/720, different bitrate shows, e.g. 1.4Mbps on one right now)… With no AirPods connected it fails:
Press the pause/play button (or the big top button) on the remote; it pauses. Press again to unpause and a new frame appears but it does NOT play… after 2-3 minutes screen will go black. pressing pause again and again does nothing. pressing menu does nothing, but eventually it goes back to the plex home screen.
Doesn’t do this for all videos. Haven’t found any commonality between which vid will work or not wor, but some pause correctly with the remote and many don’t. I tried to see if a possible diff might be video converted with baseline 3.1 on some and 3.2 on others – but one test video failed encoded at 3.2 and also encoded at 3.1. But most that work are 3.1 and most that fail seem to be 3.2 baseline.
The Apple TVos app updated today (now version 7.15 (1) and things are now different…
(1) Some videos that had crashed the app when pause-then-unpause now work ok.
(2) Other videos still fail, but the app doesn’t seem to crash… Pressing pause/play does pause it; then pressing pause/play again, it doesn’t start to play but it doesn’t crash either. Now it just “sits there”. Pressing “menu” now goes back to the Plex Home screen showing that video in the “playing” area and I can then play that and it starts back where it left off.
So, somewhat better but still failing.
The list of things fixed by this app update include “sometimes crashes when beginning playback”… Ok, no longer crashing, but not playing either.
What else can I test / try or more information to provide???
Please… the problem still exists whether I use the physical AppleTV remote or even the remote app on my iPhone. NOTE that if I connect my AirPods, then a stuck playback does begin.
Will SOMEONE at least tell me what types of logs (and how) to document this as a bug. It’s still happening tvOS 14.3 (18K561) and Plex 7.17 (1) [send crash reports is on].
It’s a royal pain to not be able to pause-then-unpause while watching something using the standard audio output. I have to press “menu” to pause it; then to unpause I have to remove plex from running and restart it… If I don’t, it might just ‘hang’ showing the last frame or it might crash.
