Playlist Error: Make sure the destination is available and try again

Server Version#: 1.20.0.3133

Whenever I attempt to add add a song to my existing playlist (Not MY TIDAL) I received the following error above in the subject line. I’ve zipped up all of the logs from the settings page and can post it here. Not sure if it needs to be scrubbed though

When PMS is telling to make sure the destination is available, it’s an indication that it can’t see the file(s). It could initially (how they were added) but, for reasons it doesn’t know, now it can’t.

May I have your ZIP logs? There isn’t any need in most cases.
I will grab them and quickly remove or provide you a private means to get them to me if you wish it.

LOGS REMOVED

The logs have been attached! Thanks in advance

I cannot find any hard “Permission Denied” errors in your logs.

What I do see, are networking changes of the VM guest (the OS your server runs in)
The networking replies indicate you have two layers of NAT. One at the ISP/edge and one in the VM. Is this expected? If so then safe to ignore.

I did see an incomplete TLS handshake & Cert setup due to version. This wouldn’t make media unavailable if it’s part of the greater networking changes also occurring.

In particular, the networking changes appear to be periodic as if a DHCP server is firing / renewing.

I wouldn’t expect DHCP to renew so quickly so therefore wonder if there’s something in the network , outside the VM, which is not being seen.

Does any of this make sense?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I’m double NATing, since I only have one external IP I can use.

But in the meantime, I’ve disabled my DHCP server for my network that the VM belongs in and rebooted the VM. The song still won’t add to a playlist or create a new one, but I somewhat expected that.

Want me to post those logs?

Please do post the ZIP logs before the error information is lost off the end of the buffer.

As for multiple hosts and one external IP, i have the same.

  1. WAN IP
  2. Multiple hosts, 5 real systems plus 13 VM’s using bridged adapters , all appearing on my LAN as if distinct systems. Nobody has Double NAT.

To supplement, you do have a different issue to deal with .

Your SSL / TLS modules are too old and need updating

Aug 11, 2020 17:41:58.564 [0x7fbfe3fff700] DEBUG - CERT: incomplete TLS handshake: wrong version number

I recreate the error to pop up again, so it should hopefully be fresh in the logs.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-08-26_09-40-45.zip (1.4 MB)

And I’m no 100% sure how to update my SSL/TLS modules lol. I suppose I could run an apt-get update/upgrade, but I don’t think that will help too much

Hey ChuckPa, I was wondering if you were able to get back to me. Thanks

Sorry for the delay. I didn’t get the notification until today.

I did find errors; errors which should not exist.

Plex Media Server.4.log:Aug 20, 2020 02:02:13.462 [0x7fbfc77fe700] ERROR - Error cleaning media bundles: boost::filesystem::directory_iterator::construct: No such file or directory: "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Media/localhost"
Plex Media Server.4.log:Aug 20, 2020 02:02:13.463 [0x7fbfc77fe700] ERROR - Error cleaning metadata bundles: boost::filesystem::directory_iterator::construct: No such file or directory: "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Metadata"

Where is your /var/lib/plexmediaserver stored?

It should be on the root drive:

root@:/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server# ls
Cache Diagnostics Plug-ins
Codecs Logs ‘Plug-in Support’
‘Crash Reports’ plexmediaserver.pid Preferences.xml

It appears as though the “metadata” and “media” folders are missing in my Plex Media Server folder. I’m not sure as to why that would be, I haven’t manually moved those anywhere.

Is there a installation repair mechanism I can use or something of the like?

There is no “repair” other than to erase it and start over.

You can try to manually recover it by:

  1. Create the directories by hand as root
  2. Change ownership to plex:plex
  3. Force re-scan all your media
  4. Force “Refresh All Metadata”

If this doesn’t rebuild it then there is nothing which can be done,
In all my years here, I’ve never seen this type of failure.

Well strangely enough, that mostly worked. I’m still not able to import songs into existing playlists, but I can now make new ones. I’ll go ahead and rebuild them from here. Thank you
