So, I had one single music library. Used it for a couple of years and I finally got around to moving some music my spouse doesn’t care for off the main library folder (Music) to a second music folder (Music 2).
I then created a second music library in Plex (Music 2) that included two folders - Music and Music 2 - to use myself. This way I can listen to all of the music we have while my spouse doesn’t have to listen to some of it.
In my new Plex library, Music 2, I cannot create any playlists and my formal playlists, from original Music library, have now removed the songs that are currently in Music 2 folder.
I’ve been meaning to do this anyway, so for testing I just now added a new music library to my server. This library uses a separate folder from my main music library and is intended for a managed user on my server (the files are their ripped CDs I was using in a separate music server before this).
I was able to create and load the files for the second directory into the new music library (having set up a mount point on my file system and set permissions for the files so Plex would have access before attempting this).
The new library loaded content fine.
I added the new library to the access of the managed user it was intended for.
I then switched users on the web interface to the managed user and pinned the new music library to their home screen so they would see it next time they used Plex.
I tried making a new playlist with a couple tracks. No issues. Playlist made under their user profile on the web interface seems to work fine and I could start playback on each track.
TL/DR: Not able to reproduce issues with a secondary library.
Edit: Tried this again from within Plexamp to make sure it was not an app-specific thing. I was able to make a new playlist, add a couple tracks from different albums, and confirm they played back after switching user in Plexamp to the managed user account.
Did you rescan the original Library and confirm the files you moved are still in that library (also empty trash)? The playlist entries were likely removed because the files they referenced no longer exist where they were. You’ll need to readd them to the playlists now since the location of the music a different directory and Plex does not consider them the same files. Remember it’s possible to have duplicates in music files just like movies, so a Playlist likely references songs by the actual file on the server, not just a library entry for the album and track.
I tried this out last night and so realized that I will need to redo all of my playlists. I was slightly confused because in Plexamp I could still see my original playlists and play them, albeit without those songs that I moved to Music 2 folder. Thanks for your help!
