Just wanted to jump in here - I’ve been getting by using the Prism on iOS to be able to sort playlists, but it comes with its own issues that would otherwise work with Plex/PlexAmp.
I also experimented with Smart Playlists, specifically the ‘Moods’ tag that songs can have. Put in the title of the playlist as a ‘Mood’ to a song or album that I want and then create the smart playlist specifically targeting these ‘Moods’, then I can filter by date added to the playlist, which is about as good as can be for now…
I appreciate that this takes away dev time and what not from main development to add this functionality, but it would be insanely useful to not be forced to use smart playlists which adds unnecessary complexity to what should be a simple ‘Add to playlist’. Heres to hoping y’all bring this in 2024.
I use PlexAmp every day as my primary music platform. I believe Plex and PlexAmp would benefit greatly from an improved Playlist sorting.
For example, Apple Music allows you to sort your playlist by the order, the artist, the album, etc. I have attached some example screenshots demonstrating this feature.
I know a lot of this topic was about sorting in music playlists… but I’d really like the ability to sort videos by release date, etc, in a video playlist that is NOT a Smart Playlist.
My Marvel playlist has both movies and TV Shows on it, and I really want it sorted by release date so that I can watch it chronologically without having to try to manually put shows in the right place. Drag and drop in a hundreds-item list is just not doable. Oh, and please put a nicely visible Watched symbol in the playlist so we know where we’re at without having to go into each playlist item to see the Watched tag on it.
I hope this request is also going to fulfill that need, so if it hasn’t been requested already, please consider also doing it for the video side of things.
We use Playlists to separate types of movies like “Animated / Kids”, “Family”, “Comedy”, “Action”. When we add more movies to our media and then add them to these designated Playlists, they are not kept in alphabetical order. When using the Playlists, it makes it difficult to find a desired movie.
Please add the ability to sort Playlists.
Thank you and we love your software - this is a dream come true in today’s digital, on-demand, streaming world!
I would love more options for sorting; alphabetical is not the best way and List View is not optimal either. Any of the views from the regular library sorting would be nice; poster view, etc.
I have a playlist ‘Watch again’ where I have movies I want to see again…
Is there a way to sort this playlist?
Because every time I add some movies to the playlist, they are added at the end of the list.
This makes it hard to find a certain movie…
Currently (as far as I can tell) you can only create a playlist from one library. So while you can create a playlist to play multiple TV shows in air date order, you can not create a playlist that included movies into that order.
I currently have STAR TREK as a collection, with the movies in my MOVIE library and TV shows in my TV library tied together using collection tags. It would be really nice to be able to create a playlist that put all the movies and TV shows together in the order they were released, so as to watch all in order for series like Next Generation and Deep Space 9 which aired at the same time, and for the movies to fit in around the episodes.
Dang… this request is 9 years old and still nothing?
Spun up a Plex server 3 days ago (finally got rid of YouTube Music, god that service was predatory, RIP Google Play Music). Spent hours manually moving/creating my playlists and man what a sad surprise to see that not only does this basic feature not exist, but the request has been around for 9 years with very little to show for it.
I have a large music collection that has gathered duplicates over the years (due to different formats, such as mp3, wav, and so on). It is typical for me to have 2,3, or even 4 copies of the same song saved within one album.
Been trying out Plex for about 6 months now, because itunes is clearly not going to be around much longer (and it can no longer deal with music I didn’t buy from itunes) and will become a streaming music service.
I’ve been making playlists by listening to “All Music” and adding songs to the appropriate playlist as I go.
You get where this is going: I can’t find a way to sort the playlist (say, alphabetically by song) so I can remove the duplicates.
This feature is important to me as a paying plex subscription member, and I’m concerned to see it has been on the request list for 9 years.
This is a sorely missing feature at the core of any media platform. It really affects the user experience and quite honestly doesn’t make sense why this hasn’t been implemented in the DECADE since this request was posted.
Sheesh, this has been out here for a while! Also, if the web version playlist page sorting could actually sort by name instead of putting all the smart playlists first by name, then the regular playlists by name after that. Plexamp sorts the playlists by name correctly.
Just wanting to add my voice for enthusiasm for Searching as well as Sorting within a playlist. Searching in particular is vital for managing the playlist, in order to find specific tracks that either need reordering or removing. I see that there has been some response from development, and I’m happy for that, but I was concerned that the response implied Sorting was the main thing being looked at. So I’m raising a hand here to amplify the matter of searching as well.
Sorting, reordering/moving, search, … playlists are unfortunately the worst part of Plex.
Let’s say you have a list of 500 videos or songs and you want to move the 5 last songs to the top. You have to drag the song, scroll ALL the way up (takes forever), then drop it - FIVE times! You can’t select all five and move them. You can’t just overwrite the index number or something (497 → 1, enter). There isn’t even a “move to top” shortcut.
And yes, you also can’t see / search for a specific track in the playlist - because there’s no search feature.
I had my vote for a similar suggestion but it seems like it was closed. Im hoping now maybe with people have larger collections, maybe a shift has occured where people also want to be able to search within playlist.
Please add the option to be able to search ONLY within a specific playlist. It is very useful when we are looking for a specific song and want to pickup playback either from that song or at that point within the playlist. All music apps have this and would be so helpful if Plex would add it, even if just to plex and not plexamp.
