Plays for 15 seconds, then stops?!

Hi,

I've been having issues with PlexConnect.

Files take an age to buffer, play for 15 seconds, then stop.  Buffer for another age, play for 15 seconds, then stop.

I've not had issues in the past, it just started happening a few weeks ago.

I've checked network cables, re-installed both PMS and PlexConnect, reset the certificates, and still having problems.  Hence coming here for help.

I've attached log files for both PlexConnect and PMS.

Suggestions?!

Thanks,

Adam

Sorry… Attached the logs, do you need more details?

PMS and PlexConnect installed on MacMini Core2Duo. Had been working fine, then started getting the buffering problem

Reinstalled both PMS and PlexConnect - still the same problem.

Run PlexConnect on a borrowed machine, pointing to original PMS instance, and no issues.

Yes ALL the details requested, it really does help eg I have seen a similar issue due to a screwed up settings.cfg file.

After your follow what f00b4r said why not download a new plexconnect zip from baa’s github so you can rule that out.

Have tried a fresh download, twice. Kept the certificate the first time, still had the problem. Fresh install, with new certificates too, same issue.

If you could provide the requested info that f00b4r requested you to we could assist you so much faster. I assume that you are not messing with any of the configuration files and are just copying your old certs over. This includes not messing with your settings.cfg whatsoever.

Use this to post a much more detailed report: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/69410-read-before-posting/

Also let us know the media info for a test file and if you are using subs or not, I have a feeling your PMS is trying to transcode and isn’t powerful enough.

I am having almost the same issue here but my files will sometimes not start at all

  • our ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software): ATV3 bought in sept 2013

  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS): right now 192.128.1.201

  • The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on: 192.168.1.201

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on:  I'm using the synology 4.3 one right now as the last thing I tried was running it on another device

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: iMac OSX 10.9.1

  • The Plex media server (PMS) version number you are running (do not put 'latest'): 0.9.8.10.215-020456b

  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: 192.168.1.1

  • The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any non-standard setup e.g. Plexify or a fork.  https://forums.plex.tv/topic/72356-plexconnect-on-synology/  this is where i got the version I'm currently using the one for DSM 4.3

  • The contents of your 'Settings.cfg' file (this is created at first clean shutdown of PlexConnect, using CTR+c) i copied the settings.cfg files from the Synology NAS ( that was fun trying to find out how to do that for the first time lol) but here it is http://pastebin.com/nGuYtzPK

  • Detail on the media file if it is an issue related to playing a media file:   I changed the name of the files in the coding cause thats my business not any one else hope that doesn't effect anything http://pastebin.com/CjZDx95p
  • PlexConnect Log files: I would have uploaded something for this but there was nothing there once I found where it was and copied it so I could view it.
  • thinks I have done to try and fix the issue: uninstalled plex and plexconnet, installed the latest version of each(not sure what I was on before i started having issues as I though removing them and updating would have fixed the issue. since the latest version of plex didn't work I went back to the last version I new was working which is th version I have installed now (listed above). I still had and old version of plexconnect from when I first downloaded it I tried using with the old version of plex that I first installed, this still didn't fix the issue but some of the other videos started the 15 sec of play then more buffering. I checked the menu to see if it showed the show was transcoding or not and it didn't say it was. I am able to run the videos through the plex web app to my PS4 with no troubles and through DNLA to my cable box (it supports DNLA but it doesn't look nice at all which is why I got the apple tv when I found that the plexconnect can stream to it). so I don't think there is an issue with the PMS. I know there was new channels added to ATV3 on 6.0.2 recently and I think about that time is when the issue started so I have tried resetting it, restoring it and looked into downgrading it to 6.0.1 which is what it had on it when I first got it but found I could not.

I know the original poster hasn't updated his information here but I thought since I'm have a very similar issue that my info would help

@dragonslave2 if you add that file to iTunes on a PC or Mac and then stream it to your ATV using home sharing does it work? What does you PMS log show about how it was played (streamed / remuxed / transcoded)

ok so I'm really at a loss right now. well to really start the last time i touched the ATV was friday when I finished doing all the stuff i had tried and figured I would check in a few days to see if any one else posted about there problem when I found this forum. when I went to do what you asked I found it played just fine through iTunes home sharing to the atv. when I went to check the log files I could not make heads or tails of what I was reading so i deleted them and tried to steam through plex/plexconnect and you know what it played with no troubles the whole think buffered to complete in about 4 mins of the show running and I could ff rw pause play you name it it worked. I went to check the log files to see what showed there and there was no new ones. so i will check for logs again if this happens but i have no idea what fixed it as its just been sitting there and the computer running for the last two days with no change to plex plexconnect or the atv as i couldn't restore it to v6.0.1

if i have any change I will post the logs if they are there

Apologies for not replying earlier after my initial requests, had been away without access to the log files.

Have tried re-installing everything as suggested, deleted old log files, and applied the recent AppleTV update and all is working now.

Thanks for all your help.  Apologies for not giving you all the details straight off the bat.
