Agree with the OP please also leave Roku alone as well - it works/looks great
I think that is a losing battle. It would probably be more productive (and more likely to succeed) to ask for the new app to be able to switch between “Servier/Library”- (classic) and “Content Type”- (new) centric modes.
I, too, have stopped updating Plex Mobile just for the same reason. Don’t like the new UI. Likewise, I have stopped auto-updating PMP on my PC (I download the setup file instead when I get notified of a new version), so that I can always revert back to a previous version, if they start meddling with the UI there.
in that case, PLEX is dead.
ps. just read through all the comments on the V7 update on the blog - NOT A SINGLE critical comment about the update …
I guess PLEX just ignore their users if they have anything critical to say.
Agreed.
I’ve already downloaded Emby and started setting it up to test drive it as an alternative to Plex. I may try others if I find that Emby doesn’t meet my expectations.
Sadly, I believe it is just a matter of time before they ‘improve’ the Web-UI. It doesn’t make sense to have the traditional Server/Library based approach on one interface, and have something different on others.
Thanks for the heads up… i’m checking out Emby too
Just saw a comparison on Youtube and Emby can utilize hardware transcoding with eg: QuickSync or NVidia / AMD APP accelleration!
Apparantly there’s also SmartTV Apps ready for most vendors as well as Smartphone apps.
I just started using Plex to stream my content from my home server to my screen. But after the News and Podcasts filling up my screen, and shutting those features off (which apparently was not initially possible), and now reading about PLEX-Web, I’m looking at other options to host my media off my home server.
I have made the switch to Emby. The Plex UIs are getting ridiculous. The desktop app is terrible and has live tv tacked on in a horrible way. Doesn’t even have a guide. The Samsung app has a completely different UI and does not support live tv. Emby on the other hand has a really nice UI that works across all the devices. I mean if Emby could do it with a much smaller development team why can’t Plex? I don’t get it.
I like the forums though. Much better than the previous.
