I want to be able to tag or keyword movies so that 1) I have better filtered search abilities and 2) The ability to make custom playlists. For example make a Christmas movies list without having to put all the Christmas movies in their own directory.

I have the same request, and have read the article. I haven’t used Plex that much, but don’t see a good way to organize movies with tags or keywords. I tried labels, which seem to be designed around sharing, and you can use them in a filter, but not in a search. And filters are annoying. I don’t want to have to drill down through that UI to pick things to filter by every time. I don’t see that you can define a filter and save it for future use, or pin it. I added tag values to the collections field on the tags page, and that’s not useful for filtering or searching.
I think what’s needed is a custom tags field that we can add any arbitrary tag to, which is available for filtering and searching.
Also, we need the ability to define a search and/or filter, and save it and pin it for quick access.

Thanks @OttoKerner. It looks like the smart playlist handles the saving and pinning request. Now if we could just define custom tags that would work for searching and filtering, it would be perfect.

I tried collections tags, and for me, they’re working for filters, but not for search. Also, now having tried out the smart playlist as a means of saving/pinning, I still would prefer that it worked just like a regular filter/search. The UI changes with a playlist. It’s a reasonable way to get the job done if saving filters isn’t feasible for some reason, but it would be neat to have a ‘Saved Filters’ top level menu option where Playlists appears under the Libraries heading. Or if playlists had a property to select how they’re displayed, that would be fine too. I would choose to display it just like the regular movie list that you get when you search or use a filter.
For now, it looks like a combination of smart playlists and collection tags is the best option for me. Thanks again @OttoKerner.
