I’d like to stick with Plex as my media server but this missing feature is a deal breaker. Every time I come back to it this is the first feature I look for & every time I’m disappointed. Before the Plex defenders jump in with suggestions like, “why don’t you just setup categories?” Well… Because I don’t want to. I don’t need a catagory for every little thing, nor do I want to drill through a menagerie of filters to get to my destination. Let me assure you that I’m well aware of the other sorting/discovery methods. If SEARCHING TAGS is possible and I’m just a dipshit who can’t figure it out, please point me in the right direction. 
There must be a reason Plex gives us the option to add custom tags right? I assumed the option existed to make things easier to find but what do I know. I’d like a plex developer to explain why this feature is missing or how its possible that after nearly 10 years in development this issue hasn’t been taken care of.
I also find this an annoying omission. If I can add tags, then why can’t I search them? Why have them as it is.
You can make playlists of say specific actors, directors, writers, or something else. Pretty tedious though.
The partially-implemented new search does search some tags, if not all.
I created the following tags in one of my home videos:
In Plex Web, I typed each of those tags in the Search field. It found Directors and Genres. It also finds (from the General tab) Title, Sort Title, and Original Title.
I’ve noticed they’ve removed the custom tags field in the latest release. Hopefully they’ll return it & fully implement searching of all relevant data.

What custom tags field? I haven’t noticed anything missing.
There used to be a “tags” field or “custom tags field” I can remember which. It was under the tags tab. Basically it was for your personal tags that didn’t fit any of their predefined categories. Basically providing custom ways for us to filter and sort. For example you could have added characters such as “Batman” to quickly find all films in which batman has appeared in. This would be useful for films not called batman. For example… The Dark night or Suicide squad. This is just one example, there are countless ways custom tags could be used.
You might be thinking of the “Labels” field under the Sharing tab. I don’t recall there ever being a “custom tags” field.
Nope, sharing labels are only available to plex pass members which I’m not currently using. That’s not what I’m thinking of. Wish I had a screenshot. My girlfriend noticed the change as well. In any case it doesn’t matter what the field was called, it didn’t work. There are several posts about the problem. I assume they removed the field so users would stop asking.
