I’m fairly new to Plex. I have a Synology DS 918+ running up to date Plex. I noticed issues with transcoding Dolby TrueHD audio content (Lego Batman attached). It just would not play, it would just spin. I read on how to fix it and couldn’t figure it out. True HD will play fine of my Nvidia Shield, but Plex will not transcode it to my 4K Firestick (not TrueHD support). I gave up and started generating movies that had TrueHD with two audio tracks, because of this issue. Then last night my daughter tried to watch Harry Potter 1 at school where transcoding was necessary, it wouldn’t play, also Harry Potter 3 would not play either, but oddly Harry Potter 2 would play (all attached.) All these are MKV files same audio AC3 codecs. All movies play fine with direct play, its problem with transcoding. The Harry Potter was having to transcode to 720p from 1080 for her at school on a Roku TV. With all these I get the EAE timeout, not running, wrong folder error. All this leads to believe that something is definitely wrong with my transcoding.
SO: I’ve spent hours reading about solutions:
Things I’ve tried:
Changed permission of tmp_transcoding folder in Synology- no worky. I have left the transcoder temporary directory setting in Plex, empty? Should I? I read some posts where people were having issues with TrueHD files, and they changed the directory between forward slash and backslash for the volume and it made a difference?
Updated to latest Plex, no worky
Read a long thread on someones issues where it was his network port, so I tried changing network port- no worky. I had a dual bond connection with 2 LAN, now I just have one going directly from Synololgy router, to NAS- still no worky
Deleted Easy audio codecs from Codecs in Synology File Station then restarted Plex to allow them to re-download, never saw them re-download- no worky
Re-installed Plex-no worky and then updated it-no worky
I have NOT increased inotify table, frankly I don’t understand how to do this, despite reading about seveal times. Some have said that their library doesn’t auto-scan when changes are made, with this issue, that has not been the case for me. It autoscans just fine with I make changes. I have roughly 175,000 files and 170,000 folders (a great majority are music files). I have read this can be an issue, so I disabled music files so I unchecked update all libraries and refresh music library metadata from scheduled tasks in Plex- still no worky
SO, I’m having transcoding issues, which seems like it would be a fairly straightforward procedure for Plex to handle, but it’s not working.
I have attached logs, ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED- thanks in advance for your time
Your logs show that you have Plex monitoring more folders than Linux can handle by default. (Default maximum = 8192)
Of that 8192, the transcoder needs 2 slots in the monitoring table.
You are seeing partial success because you got lucky (which folders were first created)

The solution is to perform this procedure . Don’t forget to allow for extra growth (but not too much) to satisfy your needs because this table is take from main NAS
memory.
Given you estimate some 170,000 folders in use (files don’t matter),
allocating space for 262144 (256K) folders would use 140MB of memory.
If you have 4-8+ GB of main memory then this is of no concern.
thanks for your response and time. i followed your instructions, and think i understood how to do it. my exact folder number was 170,483, so i changed the value to 229,378, per the instructions. i changed it and ran it. i think it ran? i then restarted DSM by restarting the NAS.
after running it, plex seemed snappier, but maybe that was just placebo, idk. but i tried playing lego batman, with truehd, and it still wouldn’t play, it just spins. i attached the logPlex Media Server Logs_2020-09-15_17-23-24.zip (2.6 MB)

i saw your pasted text (those were awesome), and i just copied them in, and just changed the number, then hit ok, then clicked on it so it turned grey and then hit “run.” but i didn’t know if i should remove the sentences that are before the commands, like it looks in the picture i attached. please advise
sorry, my internet went down last night. i just got home from work. i’m not sure what you mean by if the script ran as root? i left it as root, as per the picture, as that was the instructions you gave me. i’m not sure if it ran ok, is something supposed to happen when you run the script? it asked me if i was sure if i wanted to run it, i clicked yes, and there was a brief flash, of the white control panel window, and thats it. i’ll paste the text in your box. thanks
this is what i pasted into the run command box. i then hit ok. then i clicked on that command (third one down) and it turned grey. and then i clicked run, it confirmed i wanted to run it, then hit yes. not much happened. the white control panel window that was open, briefly flashed, that was it. i also clicked the box to “send run details by email” but i never got an email.
ok, i checked the email notifications- it wasn’t sending the test email. i logged out and logged back in again, and now i’m receiving the test email, i’ll run the scripts again and see what the email says
