Please help "spinning" issue

Hi folks,

I am completely new to Plex and not very technical but would really like if you can help me out here.

A friend of mine has a pretty extensive tv and movie collection and has agreed to share it with me if i signed up to Plex.

I received the invite via Email, i have signed up, i do not have a server, just using a client, i can connect to his server, see all of his media and play some but not all.

Some of the TV shows for example i will just see a spinning circle as if the show is loading but nothing happens. It will stay like this for hours.

I have tried on Nvidia Shield, H96 Pro Plus and on my windows laptop with the same results each time.

Could this be something with my setup or more likely something on my friends side?

Appreciate any suggestions as it is driving me nuts.

Thanks,

Very likely it is on your friend’s side.
Download and install Plex Media Player onto your laptop.
(Available for free below, under Downloads - ‘Apps & Devices’ )

No, it is not the same as the web app, even though it may look just like it.
If PMP also shows the issue of the spinning ‘donut’, it may be that your friend’s server is unable to ‘transcode’. (It has a cpu which is too slow/old/cheap).

Hi Otto,

I have done exactly as you have said and just received the following error.
Do i need to purchase something to remove the playback limit?

Capture

No, there is no need to buy anything. The error is solely on your friend’s side.

You can confirm that by setting up a Plex Server of your own. Put one video file on it (use a ‘Other Videos’ library type).
If that streams successfully, you know for sure the error is not on your side.
