PLEASE HELP: strange problem in Plex web with a certain library's collection tab

Hi guys,

I have a big problem with a certain library and its’ collection tab in Plex Web - it is gone.

Here’s the library with its medathek view:

Notice the top ribbon… mediathek view is active.

Now, let’s switch to the same library’s collection view by clicking “collection” in the top ribbon:

Please see the orange Collection tab is active - while the library can only be seen in mediathek view.

I have no way of going to that library’s collection view - including dozens of smart collections and hundreds of collections - all with individual posters, etc…

Changing the view or sorting in the mediathek tab DOES NOT chance the view or sorting the the same mediathek in its now wrongly displayed Collection tab,

Argh…

Yesterday, all was working well… now, the collection tab is not operating.

Even stranger: I just checked on my FireTV’s Android TV Plex app and the collections (including smart collections) are working.

Here’s what I already did to fix the problem:

  • restarting server
  • updating to latest PMS beta (QNAP)
  • updating QNAP firmware to 4.5.4 (latest)
  • clearing browser cache
  • accessing library via Plex Web with server IP
  • accessing library via Plex Web using app.plex.tv (did not do that before, so it’s definitely not a cache issue)
  • restarting client computer
  • using different browser

Other libraries work well with the Collection tab.

Please help me fix this strange problem… is there so server-side cache with Plex Media server?

Again, accessing the Collection tab via Plex app on FireTV is okay, but functionality there is limited (no edit, no change of smart collections, etc).

First, I thought that this thread could describe my problem, but it does not (though I also work on QNAP with smart collections of actors - plenty of them):

And here’s how it SHOULD LOOK LIKE:

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Restoring defaults (Settings → Plex Web → Debug → Restore Defaults) should correct this. Note that you will have to reconfigure the client (pick your default server, pin libraries, etc…) again.

Also note the warning on that page regarding settings sync.

Thank you for your help!!!

Does that mean I have to reconfigure this for all of my clients or just my Plex Web browser experience?

I do not know what this means, could you please elaborate?

You should only need to do this on the client experiencing the issue.

Sorry, I was referring to this note:

It essentially says that if you have settings sync turned on for the client (Settings → Plex Web → General → Turn on/off settings sync) that this reset will be propagated to other clients with settings sync enabled as well

Thank you, sir. It worked like a charm.

You’re welcome, glad it worked!

Hi guys,

may I bring the following observation to the Plex dev team? It might help to crush a Plex Web bug.

@BigWheel @dane22 @OttoKerner
Don’t know who takes care on Plex side… could you please make sure somebody looks into this.

I am accessing my main Plex server through FireTV devices usally. But to work on Smart Collections, I accessed the collection tab of my libraries from two different computers using Plex Web using latest Chrome browser.

I am using the poster gallery view which has a zoom in - zoom out slider. Sliding this to far left shows on “computer A” seven posters in each line of the gallery. Doing the same on “computer B” gives me nine posters per line.
While this is fine for me, using Plex Web on “computer B” (more posters per line) results in the problem which initiated this thread - Collection tab becoming inaccessible.

Here’s how to reproduce this:

a) find two computers who show different number of poster per line in the same library’s collection gallery tab.
b) use computer with smaller poster number from (a), go to library, go to collection tab and slide the gallery view slider to the far left… scroll in that library.
c) Close browser.
d) Do the same (b) and (c) on the other computer, leave on “Collection” tab before you close browser. Do not log out.
e) Open Plex Web on computer A again and go to the same library, Go to library view, then change to collection tab.
f) reproduced

Workaround: Turn the poster number slider on computer B to a number of posters per line that is in the range of computer A, before you use that computer.
Other workaround: don’t set remember tab setting on PMS.

Real fix: Plex Web should check, if “number of poster setting” is too large for own view and reduce this for its own view (but only use it as a local setting, not saving it on PMS - to avoid changed setting on other computers.
Real Fix 2: Save this setting on a “Plex Web per device” on PMS

Thanks for the steps. I’ll try to repro

You can reset the web app by going to debug settings of web app and hit the Restore Defaults button which will make you set the pinned libraries again but won’t affect server settings

Yeah, thank you. That was the way I encountered the problem the first time, but I don’t like it as a solution to the problem in general

I had to setup all clients again… which took a while LOL

My own workaround is much more “destructive” (don’t get it wrong).

Any news? Were you able to reproduce the behavior?

@BigWheel
Since yesterday, I have the same phenomenon again.
But this time, fixing it via “my own way” does not work any longer.

Therefore, once again I have to “reset” all apps by “Restore Defaults”… I really hate to have to do this again and again and again.

BTW, I updated to newest beta yesterday AFTER it happened… and it did not help.
