First I love the new side panes customizability . . .
except when I despise every part of it.
Let me tell you a little story, so D!sney Plus comes out. I say to my family, you know we own many of those titles and I have them up on our Plex. So I decide to make a new Library called D!sney to highlight them. Like many users from the dawn of Plex I have libraries by folders broken out by Family, Action, Comedy, Kids.
So I thought I would take advantage of libraries allowing multiple folders. Metadata got all screwed up (I’ll save that for a different thread) long story short I tried to reinstall the server as the Plex Dance to fix metadata was doing nothing for me.
Now we get into the issue of the side pane.
First all devices had the old server folders pinned and couldn’t see the new server.
I renamed the new server to be the same as the old server and deleted the old server but ALL devices still saw the old server. I wanted to make this easy for my family so I went back to calling it something new.
Then I logged into each user, home screen, and reset to defaults to clear out the EXCLAMATION marks.
Then I got to my upstairs TV and EVERY SINGLE user has to have those home screen settings cleared out to find the new server name to add my new folder.
Now I am divorced and have a firestick / TV in each room of my place and for my ex-wife so my kids and my girlfriend’s kids can all watch our media. That’s a lot of devices to go through and clear out all home screen pinned settings and add all folders.
Then I log into mobile and realize all of the users mobile settings are broken.
Here is the rub, WHENEVER I add a new library I have to do this re-order and pin dance despite have users have all library access.
Requests
-
Add a menu option to reset to defaults if pins are all unavailable. (make the default)
-
Pins and library order should be user specific NOT device specific.
-
Make an advanced server settings option to “Do the Plex Dance” for us.
-
When we delete a server from the primary account, it should be removed from the pins of all users and no longer be visible.
Keep up the good work. Despite being a lifetime member I plan on buying separate memberships for other family and supporting this product for years.
. . . assuming you continue to listen to your customers.
