This should be a simple matter, the logic is BINARY - either it is pinned or it isn’t…
I’m so sick and tired of my “pinned” libraries ‘disappearing’ from the side panel and continually finding that they have become “unpinned” (with no user action on my part)
It’s beyond annoying - it has become a grotesque waste of my time to ‘recover’ the (previously) pinned libraries, re-pin, and re-order them.
I’ve looked for a resolve, searching the forums and have only found an instance of someone begging Plex to fix the sidebar. Can’t believe no one else has encountered this bogus “feature” (BUG).
What part of “pinned” is not comprehensible?
I can only speak of my own personal experience and so far my pinned libraries have stayed pinned. Initially I struggled a bit with the concept to customize this for every client (type)… in the meantime I got used to it and actually enjoy having different libraries pinned on my TV, phone and in the browsers.
In what context are you losing that navigation menu customization?
Make sure your browser is not set to clear cookies/site data after every close. Also in the General settings of the Web app if you turn on settings sync it will load up the same settings across your Web app instances ( like if you use Plex web through a browser at work and at home)
Good suggestion on “Turn on settings sync”, however, does not apply to this problem which will also answer the question posed concerning context…
I did not elaborate on where the pininng of libraries being lost occurred because it is being lost ON THE SERVER. PlexMediaServer - that’s why the server version number in the posting.
Control of the SERVER is EFFECTED through the (web) interface - the fact that the settings are mis-maintained is a byproduct of the Server’s dysfunctional handling.
So, where does the problem lie?
That would be with the programming on the Server end, NOT the interface.
Why are we playing symantics instead of addressing the problem?
Web app settings are not saved on the server. When you go to the settings you will see there are separate areas for Web Player and Server settings. Many folks don’t have a server at all.
They are saved in the browser memory, or if that Setting Sync option is enabled, saved to your account.
I mentioned previously if you have your browser set to clear cookies/site data after every time it is closed it could do what you are experiencing. And every time I have seen someone have this issue that is the cause.
Or I suppose some browser extension like an ad blocker preventing javascript/etc might be prevented getting saved to your account properly. when the sync settings is on.
No, the brower is not set to ‘clear’ upon close and I don’t “close” the browser (pages) to my server(s) anyway, they are minimized to the task bar…
Regardless, I took a look at setting the “Sync option” where you said they would be saved to my Plex account - certainly hope that is on a per server / device basis.
However, when I went to settings, this is what appears:
Any Plex Web settings and customization made in this Plex Web instance will not be synchronized with other Plex Web instances. This is because we have detected you have previously saved settings from a newer version of Plex Web.
Quite curious seeing how this Plex installation (PMS) IS THE MOST CURRENT.
Yea, it is…
But, What is the relavance?
If that IS THE MOST CURRENT RUNNING (that has made any changes) then,
according to Plex’s own admonishment IT SHOULD DICTATE.
That would make this an obvious problem (failure) by Plex to properly “detect” and act accordingly, which ONLY COMPOUNDS THE PROBLEM, if in fact, the pinning of Libraries is maintained by the Web app (browser), AND
Like I’ve already stated, my browser pages aren’t cleared or closed so it rules out that possibility.
Not that I don’t appreciate the input, but as you can see from the forgoing, the issue STILL appears to reside with the Plex (PMS) programming, Web app or whatever.
In fact, the issue started about the time that Plex allowed for the ‘reordering’ of Libraries (a really nice feature). I think that’s when ‘pinning’ came into vogue and has been a problem since…
as you can see, I don’t spend my time continually updating for the sake of it.
And if it ain’t “broke”, I don’t (have to) spend time fixing it.
It’s not “broke” for anyone but you as far as I can tell. reordering and pinning were introduced at the same time. The pinned libraries and the chosen order of those pinned libraries are saved in the same place.
Neither of those things are saved on the server and never have been.
