Please Provide More Options for Collections

The new Collections feature is a great addition to Plex, but as it exists right now I have to hide Collections from my main view library. I’ll explain why and go into possible solutions below:

  1. Collections with only ONE film - If you have your metadata agents configured so they download collection data from online sources you’ve encountered this issue. Either a film you have in your library has a bunch of direct-to-DVD sequels you have no intention of buying or it’s a film with an announced yet unreleased sequel. It would be nice to have a global option to hide Collections that contain only one film.

  2. Show/Hide Collections Individually - There are some collections I have that I don’t want to delete their collection metadata but I don’t want them showing up in the main library view. We should have finer trained control over which collections are hidden and which are not. Adding the ability to toggle this on an individual basis, instead of globally would be nice.

Less necessary changes:

  1. Automated Collection Poster Order - Right now the randomly generated poster art for a Collection randomizes the order of the four posters it chooses. The is great if you have a collection you don’t want to add custom artwork to. It’d be even better if we had an option to turn that randomization off on a per collection basis.

  2. Collection Order - Right now there’s two options for this (Release Date, Alphabetically)… Add a third option to manually sort collection order.

  3. Collection Alias - This is a pie-in-the-sky feature request, but it would be helpful for certain collections to have the ability to creat one or two aliases so they show up in multiple places in the library. For Collections like the Marvel films that could be categorized under Marvel & Avengers it’d be nice to have them show up in both spots.

The first two are huge issues for me right now. Turning on the Show Collections features just creates far too much of a mess in my library to enable. I’d like to have it on and I’d like to do that without having to delete metadata that I may end up needing in the future. Hopefully we’ll see these changes soon. Pretty please.

I agree with this. Especially no. 1 above. My only other wish list I have is to let me add movies to a collection. I have a couple of collections that show one movie, but there is a second. A prime example of that is The Blob. The collection shows the 1958 version, but does not include the 1988 version. I would like to help out Plex and add the 1988 movie to the 1958 collection. To build further on that, I would like to add movies to a collection that may not be technically part of the series. A prime example of that would be the Alien movies. I have an Alien collection icon, and under that it shows the 4 Alien movies, but I would like to be able to add the AvP movies as well as Prometheus and Covenant movies to that collection. I consider them to be Alien movies too

The collections feature has started, but it needs a little more help.

I appreciate all that the Plex team is doing with this program. It is constantly evolving and improving. It’s a cool program that just keeps getting better.

Thanks

I would suggest doing a little little light reading on the collection feature. You are already able to add or subtract any movie you like from a collection by simply editing the collection tag field.

No. 1 and 2 are already documented.

Please help focusing on the individual requests by avoiding multi-feature feature requests with (partial) duplicates. This otherwise lowers the chance for those individual requests to get to a noticeable amount of likes

Sorry, didn’t know that was the way to do things. I figured since it was all related to the same feature it made sense to put it in one post, instead of starting five separate threads. Missed those threads when I did my search. Thanks for pointing me in their direction!

Though, I will say that (2) is listed in your post as ‘optional’. Though the use case you described (the multiple uses for Collections) is the reason I want the ability to hide/show Collections (the bundle itself). Gave it a like.

Early 2021 clean-up:

  1. duplicate / implemented
  2. duplicate / implemented
  3. duplicate (machete order / manual ordering)
  4. duplicate
