Plex 1.42 cannot connect to my media server Windows

Both 127s showed the same screen

Ok, this is making no sense.

  1. Plex is running in the system tray
  2. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web does not load.

In normal situations you get either 1 OR 2 ever both.

I am going to bet that http://127.0.0.1:32400/identity is also a page not found error.

If you go start menu => run => %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Setup Plex.html does that show anything?

Edit just saw in your logs the 127 adapter doesnt have a gateway set.

Replace the 127 address with 192.168.12.102 and tell me if that changes anything.

The %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Setup Plex.html it doesn’t know what to do with.

Wants to know what program to use.

That URL should be: http://192.168.12.102:32400/web

Can you re-install Plex? almost seems as if there are parts missing.

Use the current version or an older one?
I have 1.19.4…

Which was working great for years.

You are running v1.41.7.9823-59f304c16 I would recommend updating to 1.42.1.10060 as there was a security issue found in older versions of Plex. And this may fix the issue you have, if you are missing parts of the app.

Current Direct URL is https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.42.1.10060-4e8b05daf/windows/PlexMediaServer-1.42.1.10060-4e8b05daf-x86_64.exe

This whole problem started when I got the email to upgrade essentially.

I will do that in the morning and let you know.
I need to eat supper.
Thank you for all the help, fingers crossed. Fred

I installed 1.42.1…
Things are looking up.
It can find the server, it shows my shows, but it can’t access the files to play.

Where do I go from here?
Thank you sooo much.

Another hint.
I have conflicting opinions. Some places it can find it, others it can’t.
I’ll be quiet until you get back to me.

Sorry one more screen shot.
It knows where my server lives.
it is the NUC

FOUND IT.
Somewhere amongst my wanderings the drive letter for my media was changed to D: from E:.
Tis working again.
Don’t totally understand why it could find all my media, but not play it.
Again thank you for all the help.
This old man can rest easy again and watch our new acquisitions.
Cheers, Fred

  • Red Triangle by server name
    • This indicates that remote access is via relay only (if Im not mistaken)
  • It knows where my server lives.
    • Odds are in a previous version of plex you created a server, and named it NUC when you updated plex it continued to use that same name you forgot you named it.
  • It can find the server, it shows my shows, but it can’t access the files to play.
    • Odds are (and your later posts prove this) the media either has permission issues or is in a different location. Plex isnt seeing your media in this case but rather remembering what media you had in plex the last time it scanned your files.
  • Don’t totally understand why it could find all my media, but not play it.
    • See previous response, plex isnt seeing your media, it just remembers what media it last saw, and when you go to play one of those files it cant find it.

It is up and running.
The interface is slightly different, so I have to learn how to interact with it.
Or it has been so long since I had to interact I forgot

Thanks for all the help, Fred
