Plex 4k HDR movie streams over internet some movies stutter some don't

Hello all,

I am having a frustrating time with having my a family member stream from my Plex to his 4k HDR L.G TV. Some movies play fine without constant stuttering of audio leading into a buffering moment and some do it every minute to 5 minutes at a time. The movies are all 50 to 70GB and I cannot figure out why some are ok then load another and it does that.

All the audio does get converted to AAC but it hardly chews up any resources on my server as it’s quite powerful. I have tried over wifi/hard wired with same results on both ends. On the occasion I see on my family end trying to stream that the connection is not powerful for a 53gb movie when we go back to the main menu but then we load up an 85gb 4k HDR movie a second later and it streamed fine then going back the one we had a issue with and same results over again with stuttering/buffering and sometimes connection not good enough ect.

Sorry for the wall of text but any options I may be missing? Is it just the quality of the rips possibly? Not sure on BIRATES as some look to be higher playing fine.

Thanks

I’m not sure if the Plex Labs is the correct place for this post, but either way…

Do you know if the client you are playing the 4k streams on requires the video to be transcoded at all? I know even on my new server build, that handles multiple 1080p stream transcodes without a sweat, a 4k transcode to 1080p takes 100% CPU.

I know I just started with 4k over the last week or so, and finally have it direct streaming to my Nvidia Shield on my local network. But I haven’t tried it over the internet yet. If it’s direct streaming, I don’t think the size of the movie would matter either way.
