I have 2 terabytes or so of my personal movies that I have been watching with the Plex server for years. Just recently when I watch a movie that I own. Commercials have been added. Close to 10 commercial breaks per 90 min film that does not have commercials to begin with. This is quite infirating that I paid for a PLEX PASS specifically to host my media without commercials. Need help please…can I simply back up the server firmware to a version that doesn’t do this? How do I fix this?
Edit
Hey folks thanks for your help. You are correct I clicked on a free movie title therefore I got ads haha. Plex is awesome I think everybody in America should have it.
Strange you’re not the first person who played the free version of a film rather than the one in their library and got commercials. I guess there could be a lot more done to differentiate local from streamed free content.
The GUI design is difficult to nail down. It’s a special profession. Let’s hope Plex trusts their GUI specialists enough to allow the changes they suggest.
I know my aging parents have trouble understanding the sections. Recently Added and Recently Aired and On Deck and Continue Watching and all the rest seem to be a blur to them. I find them watching shows from 6 years ago thinking it’s the latest episode.
If you don’t want the ad-supported content (your movie did not get ads added to it, you likely have a copy, and the free movies have a copy, and you accidentally played the free movies) you can go here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources and disable the “Movies & TV” at the top. Then it will go away (you may also want to unpin it from the sidebar if it’s still there).
