I’ve noticed any of the free movies with commercials hang during the series of commercials, usually 4 commercials. The first advertisement plays and then it hangs for the second commercial. When I say hangs, the timeout cursor starts rotating like it is buffering or looking for the link for the 2nd commercial. Usually I can crash out of Plex to the nVidia’s desktop. Rarely, I have to unplug the nVidia hardware to stop the Plex playback.
This only happens with the Plex free movies. Crackle movies are able to jump back and forth between the content and the advertising. Plex movies are so bad about hanging that I sometimes chose not to watch the first 12 minutes of a movie from Plex before the commercials start up.
Is Plex software even aware of this problem? Is there any kind of fix/workaround to watch my commercials in peace?
Yep, frustrating, happens to me across all players, not just for the first set but usually for every second or third set of ads. the worst bit is that the ads are about every 10 minutes (excessive) so every 20 minutes or so I need to restart the video, or just give up completely.
Just watched a Plex movie for the first time (Amazon fire TV) - horrible experience. 9 ad breaks in the first 45 minutes (stopped counting at that point) - each contained the same 3 ads and 75% of those breaks made the player crash.
This was made even worse, as one crash happened in the last 10 minutes of the film, so that when Plex is re-opened, it doesn’t have a ‘resume from’ time.
Are you guys running any ad blocking software on your firewalls? That’d be my first guess as to what is causing the issues. I’d love to test, but none of the “streaming” services seem to be working for me right now. When you get a chance, feel free to post at least one of the affected channel / movie titles and I’ll test whenever Plex gets these service back online for me.
I do run ad block plus in Firefox browser. I watch Plex movies on a nVidia Shield connected to my LAN. The ad block would have to become a daemon, capable of crawling on a LAN.
Today, Oct. 1, there is no Movies and TV channel on my Plex home page. I have had consistent hangs in the Free Movies On Us lineup. Any movie would hang during the second set of fetching the commercials and if I keep fighting the hung downloaded commercials it get worse. Much worse. The hangs are so bad I avoid Plex Free Movies.
Several other web movie sites, such as YouTube, also use commercials and there is no hang and that’s using FireFox with AdBlockPlus and Facebook Fence. No problems. I suspect server-side programming is the issue.
Hello, i had the same issue, when I reproduce on my shield TV pro any Plex free movie, as soon as an AD starts it freezes for few seconds than restarts and freeze again and it goes worse with the next ad till i usually give up after 5 minutes looking the wheel spinning…
I have a plex pass with the latest SW installed on the shield TV, i disabled the firewall and checked if i have switch on any AD block but i did not find it. My connection is through Wifi and this issue happened only in the last 20 days… Anybody has any suggestions
