Plex adding media then randomly removing from Library

Hi,

I have encountered an issue since the latest update, where new media added to my library seems to disappear randomly. For example episodes S401, S402 and S403 might all be added then a few days later S402 will no longer be visibly in the library. However, the file is still there and plex can see the file when I browse it within the web app.

Any help would be appreciated

Please share a screen capture, from the root of your TV library all the way down to an episode with the problem

The above shows Episode 6 as being visible but in my library, the episode was added and has since been deleted without me watching it

If I move the file to another folder and then move it back to the above plex recognises it again in my library but its pretty frustrating as its happening at random to all new episodes added

Which directory have you added to PMS ?

/volume1/tv or /volume1/tv/House of the Dragon

If I understand your question correctly the below is what I have added to PMS for the TV library

/volume1/tv

Have you confirmed all the permissions for all the files and folders allow reading?

I ask because the behavior you’re seeing happens when permissions are messed up.

Please be mindful to add permissions for PlexMediaServer (DSM 7) or Plex (DSM 6)

Yep I have in earlier troubleshooting, very strange as I haven’t updated any settings

I’ve reapplied them and will see if the behaviour changes.

What version of DSM are you running?

DSM 7, so far looks ok will continue to monitor

You have assigned file rights to the wrong user :wink:

You need to grant rights to a user named PlexMediaServer

Hey Dane,

I have done this and given some time to test but the behaviour continues. Weirdly when I go in and manually reapply the permissions then do a scan Plex immediately picks up the missing shows

Check the permissions of a file after it disappears.

Looks like its defaulting the owner to my docker permission instead of plex, not sure how to change this though as it keeps defaulting back whenever I change it
