I had this problem maybe six months to a year ago, and it has cropped up again on a small number of songs.
Occasionally, I am seeing songs with a number of slashes appended to the metadata.
For example, a song might be “Some Song/////////////////////////” the artist “Some band////////////////////” and the Album Artist “Some band////////////////////”
My music library is hosted in iTunes. I use embedded tags for all my metadata including album art.
The slashes do not appear in the mp3 embedded tags or in the iTunes information.
Anyone else seen this?
Do you have mediainfo installed? Can you provide the full advanced text output? I’ve seen some odd hidden tags that iTunes will add.
I’m getting the same problem too! Most annoying. I’m 100% sure all my music data is correctly tagged and yet Plex adds all of these extra slashes to certain artists. I haven’t checked all of the song titles yet as I have many 1000’s in my collection. Strange phenomenon. I never used to have this problem.
Or, can you PM me one of these songs?
I haven’t seen a further recurrence of this problem. I took a look at an old copy of some of the files that I had issues with using MediaInfo - first time using this tool.
I wasn’t able to see anything obviously wrong - no great long series of //////
The only thing I could see that might be an issue is that some songs have both IDv2 and IDv3 tags. Not sure if that has any bearing on it.
The tag info is clean on all the files I inspected. When this cropped up, I made the fix in Plex, not in the songs themselves, because the tags always looked right in MP3tag and iTunes.
Ok. I wasn’t expecting to see a ling of slashed but possible a field that was using slashes to separate items. Tags are suppose to use a semi-colon when you have more than 1 item in the field, but some apps use the slash. I thought possibly Plex was seeing this and extracting the first name and ignoring the rest but somehow kept the slashes.
If anyone ever sees this on a new file that is just scanned, a copy of the scanner log and possibly the file would be great.
@MovieFan.Plex I remember which songs I had this issue on, and I have a backup copy of them from January.
I got MediaInfo installed. Please let me know which View to use in MediaInfo and I will PM you the data for the affected songs.
I did see one slash in there, but nothing was following it. I suppose that it potentially could be the trigger.
For media info, I would like to see the advanced text view. I forget but I believe you turn on the advanced option, then look at the text view.
I’ve included a recent log from PMS. I’ve been moving my entire music folder onto another Drobo, around 10tb and PMS is rescanning all of the folders. There are lots of examples where the extra slashes are being added for Artists whereas, on the older Drobo these didn’t appear. They were obviously all scanned using a much older version of PMS. It’s the later versions that seem to have caused the problem. I haven’t dared look to see if slashes are being added to song titles yet! I have tagged everything correctly I am sure! Any light you can shed on the subject would be much appreciated. The most recent artists with slashes are Van Morrison , INXS, Frank Zappa, Bella Hardy, Sam Carter so it’s a mixture of old and newer artists. Very strange.
To be clear. This is a Windows PMS with media on a Drobo. Different Drobo but same Windows machine?
The scanner log you provided only shows it scanning the first part of your A’s. I do not see anything with these files indicating a problem, but there isn’t an artist with an A in your list of ones with the problem. Can you do the Plex Dance for one of these artist showing the problem and provide me that scanner log. Also 1 of these files would be very helpful to try to recreate.
I am having this same issues… I add all the metadata in iTunes and I’m 100% sure I didn’t add all these //// to the end of the song titles, or artist name… is there any fix for this or just manually remove them?
Sorry (Moviefanplex) I didn’t reply. Having a problem with PMS ‘going away’ for no reason. Trying to sort that out first. Thanks for replying.
