I’m coming from the Subsonic/Airsonic world and used to fairly legacy media players. So there’s an element of me being out of touch with contemporary UX trends I suppose.
To give some context on use case; I like to put my whole collection on shuffle and rapidly skip over songs until I get to one I’m happy with. You might say that I should go back into the play queue and skip directly to the desired song. The problem is that most of us can interpret several titles/cover art much quicker than the time it takes to manually navigate to the play queue and then start looking through tracks. My workflow also allows for quick navigation to a desired track using media controls at the lock screen etc.
Additionally, when using the app with wireless audio solutions like AirPlay/Chromecast, there’s enough of an audible delay such that you hear a portion of the auto-playing, unwanted track before you have a chance to skip or play it. In contrast, if each track was paused, you wouldn’t hear a thing until you resume playback on the song you had intentionally skipped to.
Would love an option in the settings to change this if possible. Would be happy to beta-test such a feature. BTW, great interview on the Self Hosted show! Love your work.
I can understand your scenario for sure; at the same time we’re not huge fans of adding lots of settings for everything. You can also somewhat achieve what you’re looking for by pausing and then scrolling through Up Next and tapping on the track you want to hear.
