Does this agent use the information from https://www.themoviedb.org/ to download information about the collections or not?
I ask because I have created collections, and the name I have given to the collection is the same, which is also available in Bulgarian at https://www.themoviedb.org/ - for example:
Матрицата (поредица) → The Matrix Collection — The Movie Database (TMDB)
however, plex does not take the information about the collection and I can’t figure out what the problem is.
Some time ago I had created a collection with Harry Potter films, and when it was created, the information in Bulgarian automatically appeared and posters etc. from themoviedb …
I will be happy for you to inform me if I am mistaken somewhere and tell me how to configure my plex to work after create the collections to take information from themoviedb in the respective language.
Plex server is 1.25.5.5492 running on Debian 11 x64
What you wanna enable is in the last screenshot you provided, labeled (in English) Minimum automatic collection size. As the name suggests, it will automatically find which movies are part of collections. If you set this to 2 or more, it will then automatically create collections for any movie groups in which you have 2 or more of them. So, for Harry Potter, it will create and fill the metadata for such, including posters and a description. And it will automatically tag any movie that belongs to it.
If you enable this, you will need to refresh the metadata on the Library level in order for Plex to fill in the Collection tag for you.
WARNING: If you have set the collection tag on a movie yourself manually, that tag field is now LOCKED and will not refresh with the metadata. You will have to unlock that tag for every movie that you did manually.
I don’t want Plex to create automatic collections for me.
I want to create collections with the names of the collections themselves from themoviedb and the posters and information about them to be retrieved automatically.
I made a collection ‘manualy’ of Harry Potter movies, naming it the way it is described in themoviedb, and the information came out automatically. I do the same and for the matrix collection - but information does not came out automatically.
On Harry Potter tags are locked… but information was generated automatically.
What I make wrong? Or may be I think it works the way it doesn’t really work …
I did what you said by setting this setting to 3.
Then I updated the metadata of the library (I have other movies - such as kung fu panda and others with more than 3 movies that doesnt have collection created) and no collections were created automatically, except the I already have created by hand… So - may be that is another bug ?
Hmm, I didn’t know that manually created collections that are named precisely as named in TMDB pull the appropriate metadata. I thought that only automatically made collections worked this way. Since this “automatic” collection creation is on by default, I thought that you might have had it enabled when you added the Harry Potter films, thus it being an automatic collection, thus it having metadata.
Some experimentation may be needed here. Are you copying the exact name of these collections from TMDB? I just tried that here with a movie I have one of (I have automatic collection set to 2 or more), and it did not pull down any metadata for the collection as I’d hoped.
I also just tested the automatic collection creation.
-I have a trilogy that automatically created when I added the movies.
-I deleted the collection myself, which locked the Collection tag for all 3 movies.
-I went into each movie one by one and unlocked this tag by clicking the orange lock until it turned grey.
-Before I did anything else, I checked each movie again, to make sure the field was not only unlocked, but still empty.
-I refreshed metadata for just one of the films, and it immediately created the collection, and added ALL 3 movies to the collection by putting this tag on their metadata.
So check out your Matrix movies. Click the Pencil icon, go to Tags on the left-hand side of this menu, and scroll to the bottom where you find Collections. Is the text field blank? Is the square lock icon on the left-side of it grey, or orange? If orange, click it. Do so for each Matrix movie. Then, refresh metadata of just one of the movies, by clicking the triple dot button on one of the films. Check to see if that movie now has a collection tag filled, and if so, verify that the others have it too, and also that the collection has been created.
So if I want to create a collection for myself - I just unlock “collection” labels on the movies, that I know are in a collection and refresh library information.
For those that, I don’t want plex to create collection automatically - even though they can be grouped into a collection. - I have to lock this tag.
