I hope this is the right spot to post this. I have been using Plex for a long time and love it, but recently I have been having an issue with TV shows. I have been adding The Rocky and Bullwinkle show, and THETVDB.com lists every single piece of the show as 1 episode, but each file on the DVD actually is a complete show with 5 pieces. I used the naming standard The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show - s01e01-e05.mp4 as I have done in the past. Each piece now shows up as one eposide as I hoped, but when I play starting with episode 1, it plays pieces 1-5, then goes to episode 2 (the same 5 pieces) and plays pieces 1-5 again. Is this normal behavior? I would want it to go to the next file after playing pieces 1-5 which would then start with s01e06-e10. Instead I have to watch the first show (5 pieces) five times before it goes to episode 6. Is this normal behavior, or am I doing something wrong. This happens with multiple players on different platforms.
Note : Multi-episode files will show up individually in Plex apps when viewing your library, but playing any of the represented episodes will play the full file. If you want episodes to behave truly independently, you’re best off using a tool to split the file into individual episodes.
See under Multiple Episodes in a Single File for more information.
Yeah, I’ve never had any luck with splitting them manually. I tried once, but couldn’t get any recommended tools to work. I guess I will just name the files as follows
File 1 - The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show - s01e01.mp4
File 2 - The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show - s01e06.mp4
and so on. It will make watching them a lot more fun as it will go straight through them. THanks
Your mention of the 5 parts per episode suggests it lines up with the screen grab I gave.
So if you really are naming them “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show” then good luck regardless of the links that @darcilicious gave.
Hello. I don’t believe it is a naming issue. I named them according to thetvdb as shown below. So episode 1-5 in thetvdb.com are all little vignettes that were part of episode 1 (File 1), but thetvdb shows each individual vignette as an actual episode (they aren’t). Hope this helps.
My issue isn’t with the way they show up, but with the way they play. I don’t want to start with episode 1 in Plex and then watch the same five episodes five times before it goes to file 2 (which has “episodes” 6-10)
