spike, the missing media is due to how the Shield handles NAS drives.
Also, I wish people would stop saying “no way” to do this or “impossible” to do that. Moving the database and metadata and all that is possible, and simple, if your device is rooted. this is not feasible for many people, sure, but using the blanket statement “not possible” is ridiculous… If someone who is rooted reads that, they will just take it as fact, when in reality they are a few lines of terminal commands away from achieving their goal…

I understand about the missing media but Nvidia pushed this as a Plex server - And it cannot even see all the media !
And part 2 - ofcourse it can be done - I just wish this had a higher priority than for example the latest hot thing (for plex) - DVR !!

Despite the fact it’s not down to Plex to fix it? It’s Nvidia’s…

Backing up to the root of an external storage is not allowed without first being granted permission to do so. For Plex to do this it would need to use the same method as Total Commander, which currently is the only app that can get full write permissions to non-adopted storage. This was brought up to one of the lead guys for Plex, but was dismissed out of hand.
As for importing backups, that is total on Plex since it owns the permission to the secure location where the Plex data is stored.
Plex could do a lot of things, including changing the path of the database to /Android/data so that not only could it be accessed, but also moved to adopted store.
It actually has nothing to do with Nvidia, Plex files are located in a secure area in Android and until Plex allows the data to be moved to an unsecure location then there is nothing that can be done.

I am 1. a Plex Pass member 2. a member of the Nvidia Shield Insider program. Given those facts, I’ve been able to watch the 3 round tables Plex did, and listen to a conference call Nvidia did with Plex and some members of the program.
Plex and Nvidia mentionned more than once they are aware of the issue, and they are working on a fix. It seems the issue comes from the way permissions are handled in Android, and the fact that Plex Media Server was added as a system app. They didn’t give an ETA, of course, but it’s one of the main things they’re working on right now.

if it’s so easy, please explain to those of us who aren’t as “knowledgeable” as yourself
So does the 7.0 update storage changes make any difference with this problem yet? Supposedly you can increase your storage from internal even for apps and games so does that mean we can add a external and make it the internal storage and plex now use that to store all the data? And Can anyone access the protected space now that the pms saves to in 7.0? Or are we still screwed?! I have the older shield and it hasn’t updated to 7.0 yet so i was curious if anyone has bought the new 2017 released with 7.0 and tried plex with it.

As far as I’m aware, adoptable storage is the same in Nougat as it was in marshmallow… So don’t expect a change.

Could be wrong, though.
Well you could with 6.0 yes but it was limited to only some data not all and i was under the impression that with 7.0 you have more control over it using majority of data as internal on any usb device now. But your right i shouldn’t expect them to fix a issue it has had since day 1 lol it is so simple too all plex has to do is change where it is installed to outside protected android folder yet they dont do it and keep pms access dead and just moved on to other things like dvr and cloud junk rather then fix the amateur problem in device they plugged across all media outlets os a media server device!.
